You can add it BUT do not buy the dual filter mount, fluid friction and I could go on for days about it but Melling has a TSB regarding fluid friction and dual mounts, don't use them even though marine power did, DONT. Also, swooping hose ends are required, not hard 90* adapters for the same reason. Here are some pointers for that installation:
- dirty oil being pushed into the filter is plumbed on the "outside" fitting that mounts to the block
- clean oil returning to the block is fed through the center fitting
- use minimum -10 hose (5/8 Inside diameter)
- use Rectorseal or equivalent thread sealant suitable for use with petroleum products only on NPT threads, never on flared or inverted flared ends. available in the plumbing section of any home improvement store
- keep the oil lines as short as possible, preferably under three feet each way.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...
Spent a beautiful Northwest weekend upside-down next to my engine trying to get a stuck oil filter off. Finally had to destructively remove it and chisel off the top flange. Only hit my hand with the hammer twice. What a pain! Since I don't have the new filter on yet, I'm strongly considering installing a remote oil filter for better access. Obviously tightened it too tight last year, but laying on my head doesn't help. I'm going to call them tomorrow to make sure it works for my engine. Any thoughts on where to mount it in the engine compartment? Thanks
