i have a 2006 20i. randomly, when you put it in gear and attempt to accelerate it just stays at idle. to correct the problem, i have to turn the ignition off then restart it then it is fine. it probably happens about one in thirty starts. any ideas?

That certainly sounds like its in a limp mode. If its a marine power thats throttle by wire, the throttle lever position sensor is a good suspect. Knock sensor is also a common possibility. along with chps suggestions check the potentiometer behind the throttle lever $100 black plastic piece that caused me the same issues you are having on my 07 22ve. It was intermittent like stated and will eventually get worse.Comment
