    acceleration problem

i have a 2006 20i. randomly, when you put it in gear and attempt to accelerate it just stays at idle. to correct the problem, i have to turn the ignition off then restart it then it is fine. it probably happens about one in thirty starts. any ideas?

That certainly sounds like its in a limp mode. If its a marine power thats throttle by wire, the throttle lever position sensor is a good suspect. Knock sensor is also a common possibility. Probably not much to do until you get it scanned for any stored diagnostic codes.

along with chps suggestions check the potentiometer behind the throttle lever $100 black plastic piece that caused me the same issues you are having on my 07 22ve. It was intermittent like stated and will eventually get worse.

Where did you get the potentiometer from? I am having idle and speed set issues that I believe will turn out to be that part.
