Where do you mount a cross over pump?

Going to tackle the install on my Jabso crossover pump today. Any recommendations where to mount it? I assume the lower part of the transom, but I don't have a good batting average when it comes to drilling in to the hull of the boat....

I'd mount inside one of the rear black plastic covers at the rear of your lockers. The ones that cover up the battery/ TAPS pump area. Don't mount it to your hull.

Does it not need to be mounted below the bag. Maybe it doesn't. Or maybe it shouldn't.

Just thinking out loud here. If it is lower it will get better inlet water pressure. May not matter since it is a pump.

On the other hand if I mount it low down it will collect water and freeze in the winter.

        ^^^What He Said^^^

This is where we mounted the Jabsco pump on our Z1. I tried to find a pic but cannot find it on our storage drive - maybe it's still on a camera or I didn't get around to is as I was quick to trade just after finishing up the project. I mounted mine to the starboard rear near the TAPS pump to the black plastic divider - inside the compartment where the TAPS pump is on the engine side.

The Jabsco pump is self priming. Don't work about keeping it below the water line - these are the same pumps they use on our Nautique ballast and they are mounted well above the waterline and have no issues priming. Mount it with the motor up and the pumphead down, this way if the pump should leak, it will not run down the motor and damage the unit - however this will make it more difficult to change the impeller when needed. I mounted ours with the pumphead near the floor so that the hose could run along the floor and not be in the way of the access panel.

For winterizing, I would still suggest either taking the pump out or running some waterline antifreeze through it to be safe.

I hope this makes sense...a picture would have made this much easier.

No I get it. Thanks to you both.

I had settled on that exact same spot.
