Just made edit above with more info. I hardly found any pieces from the two impellers that I had shred this year. I back flushed everything and removed all components (with exception of riser/ manifolds) both times. I expect that the pieces went out with the exhaust.

OK, but... how do we identify the "bad" impellers? Are there molding marks on them or something?

I have had great success buying stuff from Nautique parts. However, I have noticed that the impeller from bakes comes in a blister pack with Pcm logos and the one from Nautique parts is in a brown box and appears unbranded. They likely are from the same manufacturer but maybe not.

The 2 defective impellers from NP were in a small white box along with the corresponding o-rings, and the one I now have from my local dealer was packaged in the blister pack. I checked with Sherwood who I think makes the pump and they said that they were not aware of any defective units distributed on their side. I am waiting to hear back from NP on where they source their impellers from. NP also informed me that there are no reference points on the defective impellers to differentiate the bad batch other than the time frame from which they were purchased. If someone on here did purchase an impeller during the first half of this year from NP and it failed they will certainly send you a replacement.

Even though my PCM is in a 2008 SANTE (Nautique) it is the same motor in many of the Tige boats. Hopefully this will help those with PCM 343 motors that may have experienced the same problem. My parts supplier (Nautiqueparts) said it was for impellers that sold during the first half of this year. They are standing behind my purchases and sending me two replacement units. The impellers are made by Sherwood who is the manufacturer of the pump for PCM.
Have you seen an odd number of impeller failure postings on Planet Nauty?

We have had quite a few worn badly with vary low hours but no failures as far as overheating.

Hmmmm.... this was a new one in the white box from nautique parts early this season too.... Paxdad, what did you do to get them to send you a new one?

Just to correct my previous statement. My nautique parts boxes were also white and NOT brown as I previously stated and consistent with you guys (I have one of the used one that looks perfect still in the boat as an emergency). Both Nautiqueparts impellers gave me zero problems (on my second one but both were bought at the same time in May of 2013).

so I after seeing this thread I contacted nautiqueparts.com (where I also got the grenaded impeller above in february 2014) and they agreed it shouldn't do that and are sending me a new one. THanks for the heads up guys!

                      Shawdoggy,
Good to hear. Np was very forthright in handling this. Their parts manager said that due to the volume they sell they do outsource procurement of the part when PCM inventory is low. The two parts then get commingled and there is no way to differentiate the PCM and outsourced impellers. Based on the failures experienced NP said they will no longer outsource the part and will just wait to get inventory from PCM. I did hear back from Sherwood and their rep said all their parts carry their name as a way to identify it as a Sherwood part.
