    Tracking Fin Noise

I have a loud whistle coming from the bottom of my boat ('02 21V) at high speeds/RPM. My mechanic has looked at it and believes the driveshaft is solid and not vibrating. We think it's coming from the tracking fins. Has anyone had this problem? How did you isolate which fin it was and how did you correct it?

I'm considering putting duct tape on one fin at a time to find the culprit but I'm not sure how to make a fix from there. Any ideas?

You sure it's not the prop? They can "sing" sometimes.

Could be the prop. Maybe I'll switch it out for a different one and try it out. Good idea.

Update: I wrapped the forward fin in duct tape and the noise is 100% gone. I'm not sure on the fix from here though. I assume the fin needs to be reshaped or polished a little.

Seems like the fix is to wrap it in duct tape!
