How Do I Keep The Gas In?

I have a recurring problem with gas spontaneously spewing from the vent on my 2013 RZ2. I'm not talking about a little bit here ... when it goes, you would think the bilge had kicked on, and I lose about a 1/2 gallon each time. I checked the original inline separator and found that it was seized. It has been replaced with new, and the problem persists. I notice that when I take the gas cap off, it vents a significant amount of air/vapor which I would have thought the vent would take care of - this tends to be most prevalent when it's hot outside and the gas is able to vaporize in the tank. I can blow back down the vent line and into the tank, so I know that the line isn't plugged or obstructed. Any thoughts or similar experiences? Thanks.

I notice if I fill mine up, when I trailer to the ramp, I have a trail of gas down the side of the boat and onto the trailer. it has destroyed the stickers on that side of the boat. not every time, but 1 out of 3 it does. annoying to say the least.

Sounds like you both may be filling the tank too much. When the cold fuel from underground tanks warms up there is a little expansion. You may have a little trapped fuel in the vent line and when the pressure differential is enough to blow the fuel out of the vent, it goes. Try tracing the vent line and make sure there are no low spots to trap fuel and help build up pressure in the vent line. There are better fuel vent line spill savers that hold back more pressure to prevent a vent release as well. If you live in an area which gets hot it may be worth it to look at getting one.

This is a good link, I installed the racor LG100 on my last boat and it worked great.

I haven't had any issues with this boat yet so it's still got the factory fuel/air separator.

x2. I did this a few times and figured I must have filled the hoses all the way up as well~!

I have had the same problem on my 14 RZ4. I could barley even fill up my tank without it just spitting mass amounts of fuel out the fill hole and the vent. The problem was even worse when filling up on water. I also then noticed when not filling up there would be points were I would lose more than just a dribble of fuel out of the vent tube. I did a little investigating one day and had notice the vent hose was sitting essentially below the fuel tank so when fuel started moving around in the tank especially with a full tank the vent tube was essentially useless cause it was holding fuel. Since I had just bought the boat I took it to the dealer to fix it. Essentially all they did was shorten the vent hose a bit and zip tie it up so it never dipped below the top of the tank. I have not had a problem with this since then. It seemed like a little bit of a goofy deal and I also thought I was filling the take to full yet I was only at like 3/4.

When I fill my tank (did so this morning), I listen carefully to the sound coming out of the fill tube. When the TANK is full, and the fill tubes themselves start filling up, the sound shifts higher in frequency. It's very obvious if you're listening for it. Stop filling at that point and you will have full tank capacity yet still plenty of expansion room in those large diameter, several-foot-long fill tubes.

Then just go surfing for a bit. My average fuel consumption is about four gallons per hour in mixed driving (surfing, picking up downed surfers, a bit of idling) but when the wave is running our actual GPH goes to 10+. That will leave plenty of expansion room in the tank!

I had to reroute my vent tube to be more upright and also replaced the check valve. This was on my 05 22v.
