    complete repower options

After this season I am considering a repower, my 2001 21v riders ed looks good, interior is good, just getting tired.

I am considering a complete drop in. Do I have to go with mercruiser, or if I am replacing engine/trans/vdrive, gauges, controls etc. can I go with other options?

If I go other than Mercruiser, what is recommended? Indmar, ???

The reason to do the complete is that I would like everything to be new, not just the long block, but everything from fuel pump to dash gauges. Hopefully insuring more years of dependability.

Unless this price is scarier then a new or 1-2 yr old boat.

    thanks for your opinion.

I've never done it, but I would suspect the only way it would make sense is if you really love your boat and you can do much of the work your self.

You don't say how many hours you have but if you can fix and maintain what you have I would expect you to be way ahead. I would bet you would be into $10k in parts to do what you listed.

Replace with a new/rebuilt 5.7 or rebuild the existing 5.7 block an bolt everything right back up. Tak eoff the Merc, PCM, MP or Indmar badging and they are all the same GM block asm. I would certainly look to bump the performance though, while you are at it.

383 stroker is what is going into mine if the engine ever gives out. Reportedly a rather straight forward swap. Prices for the engines seem to range from $6k to $10k. I would figure about $10k.
