    Steering cable for 2008 22Ve

I've searched the forums and have read a lot of great tips about changing the steering cable. What length of cable should I order? I've seen recommendations from the 18' to 21' Teleflex Extreme. My existing cable is the original, but I can't find a part number anywhere. It looks like the number near the rack and pinion has been rubbed off. Also, where is the best place to order a new cable? Thanks

that 22ve should be an 18ft cable. there are some older links about steering cable replacement just search for them. I have a 19ft laying around I bought for my 07 22ve and never installed it I would be willing to part with. I ordered a foot longer due to the way I had it running around some subs in the boat but should work if your interested pm me i'd be interested in selling at a discounted price and its still in box.

I believe it's the same as in the 07,08 RZ2. I replaced mine with a 19ft but a 18 would have worked. I ordered mine off eBay because every place I tried in Canada was out of stock and told me as much as 4 months to get it. I also made the rookie mistake of putting mine in backwards and my steering was reversed. I was pretty surprised when I dropped the boat in the water and it was backwards. Only 4 small bolts and it was back in the right way but I felt like an idiot. Of course I had a large group of friends with too that picked on me all day about it.

Ordered mine for the 24Ve from Amazon, it is a 21' Teleflex Extreme ssc15421 I believe. Followed a step by step tutorial I found on this forum with the search. Fishing it was a struggle for just a little while, but otherwise it was not bad at all to do once you remove the locker panels and such to get access. I was full on laying in my locker space with my feet toward the bow under the seats and my arms outstretched under the motor. Also heeded advice I found on tutorial to route over the fuel tank where possible to keep it out of standing water. Hopefully that makes it last longer.

When you remove the old cable, pull a good strong small rope through with it, so you can in turn re-pull the new cable thru the hole. I did this, but unfortunately lost the rope on a pull try, but ended up fishing successfully after a little bit, and a couple of possible cuss words.

After done, the new cable is BUTTER! So so smooth its amazing. Good luck.

Also greased the rudder zerk while in there. May as well.
