    What is this thing for?

    Black circular bracket. 2013 Z1

Also discovered my oil filler cap is missing following the 20 hour service.

If that is all the way in the back between the engine and the stern wall, you should have your blower hose running thru that bracket. What happened to your blower hose?

Looks like the end of blower hose is on the left. Where the heck is the blower itself?

        No doubt....

Blower works, so it must be hiding somewhere. I put the hose back through the hole, but there's nothing keeping it there. I did find a rogue washer laying in the bilge. Still no filler cap or any other brackets / bolts.....

This 20 hour service hasn't gone too well.

I was working through my ballast upgrade this weekend and found the same washer laying rogue in my bilge as well. Look around a little and you may find even more parts. I didn't find a whole lot but there have been a few extra screws, washer, nuts and the likes laying around out boat - usually in hard to see areas, so I feel my dealer did a good job with delivery prep.

The 20 hour service was done by Absolut Watersports. I'm not really too worried about it. Mistakes happen. But it sure seems like they are happening at my expense a lot lately. I'm just glad I noticed it before the whole bilge was covered in oil splatter.

I'm more bothered by the fact that my auto-bilge pump isn't working, and I asked them to look at it and they didn't. They blamed me for not communicating it the way they wanted it. (I guess phoning them and asking them isn't the way it works) So I spent all night trying to diagnose the issue with limited success.

I assumed the 20 hour service was an inspection of all systems, but perhaps I am wrong.

As it stands, I've had a lot of little problems:
                      - not enough clearance on trailer
                      - bent bunk arms
                      - non-functional auto-bilge
                      - cracks in the swim platform
                      - trailer backup lights not waterproof (x2)
                      - tower light not waterproof
                      - missing oil filler cap

.... nothing so far that's prevented me from enjoying the boat, thankfully.

Wow. They seriously returned your boat to you without the oil filler cap installed on the top of the engine?

As for the bracket: I built one that looked a lot like that for one of my ballast pumps, but that blower hose hanging right next to it is deeply suspicious. You say the blower works, but what does "works" mean? That you hear it? That you can feel air being exhausted? Could they have removed the blower from the bracket for access reasons, forgot to reinstall it, and so it's just hanging by its wires somewhere recirculating the same air in the engine compartment?

Can't wait to hear the answers - or what you say to the "dealer" when you take the boat back to them and point out the oil filler cap and blower situations. I'd be turning the air blue with language....

Yes, they returned the boat with no filler cap. Luckily I noticed and went hunting for it.

I can't imagine the blower would reside that low in the bilge. It's just asking to get wet down there. When I test it, I hear noise and air is coming out the starboard side vent. I'd like to see a picture of what someone elses Z1 or Z3 looks like back there. I think that bracket is just for the hose to stay positioned nice and low.

The dealer situation is odd because the dealer is arms length from the shop. They are separate businesses and it seems to be left to me to sort out the go-between. I think this is likely just due to the time of year and how busy they are. I prefer to leave my personal sentiments on it private rather than spouting off on the internet. I will say that I do feel a bit hung out to dry. I also have faith they will make everything right in time.

Johnnie, if you take off the access panel in the star side rear compartment to access the TAPS pump, look up and to the left of the TAPS pump against the back wall and you will see your blower. On our Z1, only the hose is ran through that bracket to keep in the in the correct place to draw the fumes out. I learned alot about my boat this past weekend after removing panels to run hoses for a ballast upgrade. I didn't know that we could turn 2 quick turns and easily remove the side panels in the rear compartments for engine access. If you didn't already know that...now you do. If you want a pic, let me know - I can take one for you tonight.

Coast Guard regulations require that the blower draw air from the bottom 1/3rd of the engine compartment, since fuel fumes are heavier than air. The blower could be positioned higher and then have an intake hose that dangles down, but those blowers are designed to be positive-pressure pumps, not the kind that draw a vacuum (in other words, they are not designed to "suck" air from a distance). In any case, I agree it appears that the bracket is there to make the end of the hose meet the "bottom 1/3rd" requirement. An interesting way to comply with the law.
