    Boat sputtering at 3800 rpms

My 07 22 Ve has been great boat and this is the first major problem I have had with it. Searching through the form hasn't produced anything similar so hoping someone might have some suggestions. The boat is cutting out when I reach and hold 3800 rpms. It won't hiccup as the boat throttles up or down but only when held at that rpm. Put two new tanks of gas in and two bottle of sea foam thinking that was the problem first but that has not help. The strange thing is that it only happens at that rpm level. I can go from 3800 to 4000 rpms and it goes away or dropped down a couple hundred rpms and it will go away. I was thinking it might be the sensor for the throttle position but before I start replacing parts I wanted to see if the group might have some suggestions. Appreciate any help.

Does your distributor cap look like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/df...make/chevrolet ? If so, change it and the rotor before anything else, there's been some spark jump problems with those units.

Just went through this on a big block mercruiser and found bad plug wires. Was really odd as presented no other symptoms. Can u post a posture of the distributor por favor?

Heading down tomorrow and will get some pics. Replaced the plugs last year but had new sparks plugs put in this year. I will double check and make sure he got them on tight.

Went ahead and changed out the distributor cap and button along with new plugs and wires and the problem is still there. With it only happenings at a particular rpm range do you feel a sensor could be a possibility.

Just wanted to update everyone on what the problem ended up being. After six weeks at the Tige dealer they ended up pulling the distributer just to see and found the gears were stripped. Replaced and has been running great.

They threw the old parts away. I wanted to see it myself. I was happy to get the boat back and I think they were just as happy to have it done.
