I have a 2004 24v with the PCM 6.0 liter engine. It has a closed cooling system. The boat operates perfectly when running at speed. In fact, you can cruise up and down the lake for hours without the engine missing a beat. However, for the last few weeks we have encountered an intermittent issue that puts the boat into LIMP mode whenever you slow down, put the engine into idle (or even turn boat off to drift), and then attempt to accelerate again. Of course, once the alarm sounds the engine will go into LIMP mode whenever you hit 1500 rpm. You can clear the code by switching the battery to "Off" position and pulling the key from the ignition for a few minutes. However, once you do that the time that elapses between clearing/resetting and the next time the alarm goes off will be a bit more compressed. At the time the alarm sounds, all gauges will look perfect with temperature, oil pressure, and voltage being right where they should be. So far we have:
- Checked voltage on both batteries (good)
- changed fuel filter (good)
- changed oil and oil filter (good)
- checked all wiring both at the engine and under dash to insure nothing is loose or grounding out
- changed the fuel gauge sender unit, which was not working, to insure gas tank wasn't low/empty and thus sucking air into the fuel system when sloshing
At this point I'm out of ideas. Any educated guesses?
