    Another Dreaded Limp Mode Question

Ok This might be a little long, but I am truly stuck.

    2006 24Ve

I have had lots of electrical gremlins over the past year. What is happening now is two things.

#1 I am getting some engine surging when under way. Without making any throttle changes the boat will slow down for a little bit, then speed back up. Almost feels like something is dragging behind the boat.

#2 If I turn anything on like the blower or hit the Taps switch, I get an immediate limp mode, and the engine sometimes sputters.

I know this is a voltage related issue, so let me outline what I have done so far.

I removed the Perko switch and the associated parts. I now only have one battery.

The 4 gauge cable that lead from the alternator to the starter had been cut, and a new cable run to the device that balanced the charge to the two batteries. I removed the device and hooked the cable from the Alternator directly to the battery.

The Alternator and belts are new last season.

Should I run the cable from the Alternator back to the starter instead of the battery?

Also there is a cable leading from the battery to the power distribution block on the other side of the engine compartment. This power distribution block looks to provide power to the rest of the boats systems. Should this cable also go directly to the starter?

I have not taken the boat to the dealer to look for codes yet, but it is pretty obvious to me there is a voltage drop somewhere.

I would take a hard look at the grounding path(s). And a wise man once told me "connectors don't"....

Given the age of the boat, I would not be surprised to find a throttle position code related to the sensor on the throttle lever. This could cause both the limp and surging. I would also test the condition of the main cables. I suspect there could be one or more thats got some corrosion going on that not visible to the eye.
