E-Series Tower. Poweder coat vs paint

So I am in need of stripping and re-painting / coating my tower. Currently the tower is white with the braces being Maroon. I sent pictures to a copy of Shops around town to have the tower blasted and powder coated. So far I am getting fairly consistent quotes of $600.00 - $700 which was more than I really intended to spend.

#1 can I just paint the tower with a good quality marine / auto paint?

#2 Anybody in the Houston area know a shop that could do the powder cheaper?

#3 If I decide to go down the road of doing part of it myself, anybody got a good shop to do the blasting in the Southwest part of town?

    Thanks ahead of time

If done right, powder coating will be better then a paint for this application.

I would just get it powdercoated as that will give the best results, but if your considering using spray paint yourself, what about Plasti-Dip? I remember some guy on WW did his tower on a Sanger and had good results. Plus it peels off if you ever want to change color.

Honestly, $600 or $700 doesn't seem too bad given the amount of work that it will be. These towers were like $4k or $5k brand new and it's not all that easy to sand off powder coating yourself and not make the aluminum underneath look bad in the process. Think about the hours of labor and cost of materials and it's fairly cheap, actually.

I would not suggest paint. It will scratch and fade in no time. You won't be happy after just one season.

come on guys... You are all supposed to tell me " yeah go the cheap route.. It will work out great!! "

Oh well guess I will go sell some more blood and do the powder coat.

I had to redo a tower a couple years back due to a weld breaking. Luckily I had a neighbor that was a welder and powder coater. At that time I thought I would just re-coat it also, but he recommended sand blasting the old off to get a good smooth finish that would hold up for a long time. I let him do it which only cost a few dollars more to sand blast and was glad I did! The whole thing cost me around $200 at the time but he was also cutting me a huge break as we were drinking neighbors!! The worst part of it is tearing the tower down and putting the speaker wire back in it. Make sure to run some sort of metal wire as chasers to make the re-install easier.
