I'm wondering if any of you have found any alternate mounting locations for a stereo head unit? Preferrably on the driver's side?

We usually eliminate the Speedo, seeing as how the perfect pass pro handles everything but depth.
We have, on cetain occasions, when the customer wants his factory speedo still installed the perfect pass gauge on the throttle panel just fwd of the throttle handle at about knee height. I don't like it there, it is too hard to see. But the customers have all seemed to like it.Greg Denton

the panel to the right of the steering wheel below? This is the dash of the 24v LTD I was looking at (same one used in the Tigé DVD and print catalog). It didnt have PP, but it did have a lot of options... but thats another story. The 22v that I ordered will have PP installed from the factory- will the PP module take the place of the speedo in the pic? Personally, I'd like that panel to be free so that I can put the stereo there... but then again, looking at the pic makes me wonder about loading a CD w/o having to tilt the steering all the way up.Attached FilesFreude am Fahren.

what's your main goal by having it next to the driver?
if it's changing CDs, maybe look into getting a CD changer? (i think damon has one, or his deck has a 3 or 5 cd changer in it)
once you have all of your system set (level, fade, volume, etc), what do you really do most often with the deck? changing volume, CD tracks, or FM stations, and hitting mute, is about all i ever do....no real need to have the deck next to me unless i wanted to change out CD's...even then, i leave that up to my passengers...cuz you know, we be the captains right?!

good point... I guess I'm also looking to keep it out of the glove box to prevent damage and maximize the space in there. I'm also looking to do something "different"... kinda like my paint job! I'm also considering having the subs mounted under the back seat in plexiglas enclosures, or waterproof wooden ones with plexiglas windows. I'm not going to make any final decisions on the subs till I'm actually in the boat and able to see the layout firsthand.Freude am Fahren.

i hear yah....
as far as the glove box, the head unit really doesn't take up that much space at all....maybe about a 1/2" - 3/4" for the thickness of the faceplate. But i understand the concern to keep it out of harms way. I would think it's probably more protected in the glove box for two reasons though: it's out of the environment (sun, water, rain, moisture), and second, it's more of a hassle to break into the glove box (if it's locked) and then get the deck, than it would if it were just mounted on the drivers dash. just some stuff to think about....

not sure if it's a possibility for you, but i will be putting in just a plug in on the drivers side that will allow me to plug my ipod in. with the ipod and the factory remote, i should have all i need. saw that on a post on wb and thought it was a great idea, more music and faster selecting between songs/tracks/albums/artists/etc.

thats a cool idea, but the head unit I bought plays MP3s (and WMAs), so I'm not going to need a stand-alone player. I think I'm going to stick it in the glove box- especially if I put both subs under the drivers side dash. 2 Alpine Type-Rs and 1500 watts is going to shake things up a bit.Freude am Fahren.
