NO they are not all closed cooling.. I found about 50% when I was looking for mine.. I decided to go closed cooling system because its flat out better... You dont have raw water corroding the engine internally... Never have to worry about the engine getting and debris in it and it holds tempature alot better...

Is it tied to the presence of a cat? Our cat 409 is closed cooling.

mine is a half system... motor end (internals) is coolant driven... rest raw water. http://www.pcmengines.com/operation/ just look for your year and research what you have.

The only 6.0l that I have seen without closed cooling was from Indmar, as far as corrossion versus raw water cooled, yes closed cooling is better but thats not the major issue, cold water flashing of the block is the main issue with raw water cooling, what ever your lake temp is , is what keeps hitting the front of the block causeing expansion differences, closed cooling eliminates this issue and even runs better do more even temp.

I dunno I looked at 4 2011s that where open cooling 409s and then bought mine witch is closed from the marine tech i know stating it was better for alot of reasons

hogwash. Look at the PCM manual for 2011. There's no such thing as a raw water cooled PCM 6.0.

here's a link if you are lazy

                      http://www.pcmengines.com/assets/Uploads/owners-2.pdf

pages 65-76 contain the water flow diagrams for all pcm motors. none of the 409s have raw water cooling (though some are half loop / raw water cooled manifolds)

I dont care what your manual says I saw the open loop cooling systems with my own eyes they where at Precision Boats in ID. they also did not have cats not going to argue with you when my eyes dont lie lol

2010 manual shows the same thing on all 6.0s, cats or not.

Seems really weird that a dealer would strip a factory installed closed cooling kit.

highly doubt the dealer stripped it off.. And Im pretty sure I know what he hell I am looking at lol

Seems even stranger that PCM would ship four undocumented engines doesn't it?

I mean even if the motors themselves were somehow from 2009, catted or not, they would be fresh water (closed) cooled:
