    High idle at startup

    For some strange reason lately, every once in a while when starting my boat the idle will be significantly higher than it should be. Usually it is around 600rpm but I have seen it sit anywhere from 900-1000rpm after start up as of late. It will do it when it is cold and warm, so temperature does not seem to be the issue. I can shut the boat off for a few seconds, then start it again and most of the time it goes away... Yesterday when I started it cold, it idled around 1100rpm and started to slowly rise which puzzled me. I shut the boat off and started it back up 30 seconds later and it was good to go for the night. Any ideas on things to check/replace/tighten up?

        It may be the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve). Mine has been doing funny things at an idle although it runs great under power.

          Is the IAC something that usually goes with time? I'm sure it has never been done on my boat. Pretty easy fix?

          The thing runs great otherwise, it's just this random idle issue that is bothering me...

            Yes they go bad quite frequently. Its a super easy fix.

              From the threads you cited I don't feel like the IAC valve would be a problem. It sound like the IAC gets clogged and limits air flow, which causes rough or stalls at idle. But again I've been wrong before.

                After reading those threads, I would have to agree. It seems as if the IAC going bad would lead to a low/bouncing idle as opposed to a high/raising idle as I am seeing...
