    Alpha Z Tower question

Does anyone know what these screws do? There is one on each side and one is screwed in really far and the other not much at all. Also, has anyone done the "tower upgrade" install. I received it for free from Ski Dock but haven't messed with it yet. It replaces the locking mechanism with a more secure (and less squeaky) latch system like the newest boats.

    Thanks for any help.

They are designed to help squeeze the tower together better to help eliminate rattles. I don't think I've ever adjusted mine.

Now that I think about it, maybe I'm wrong. Is that the pivot point of the tower? I'll have to look tonight.

Either way, I do believe that you can tighten them to help snug the tower down.

They don't have anything to do with the spring tension, do they?

I replaced the stock knobs with the replacement levers. And it was not an "upgrade" but rather a recall. Those knobs work loose pretty easily. I suggest using the levers.

Oh, cool. I figured it was something like that. Was it hard? I know it mentioned something about tapping a new threaded something

That is the pivot point, yes. Mine are about equal and recessed a couple tenths of an inch. Seems to work fine.

What's this about recall lever upgrades? I have the round knobs and they do tend to wiggle themselves loose, though the tower can't fold unless you literally pull them completely out.

We just bought a used 2010 Z1 a month ago and when purchased they said there was some retrofit for the tower that Tige is sending out. You have to check with your local dealer or Tige, give them the hull id and they can determine if you get it for free or not. Ours was free and covered. Supposedly a shop will install it for you for free too. Our boat is in the slip and I don't want to go get the trailer and mess with that so I will do it myself.

Interesting. I can't say that the knobs have been that much of a problem for us, so I probably won't trouble Tige with it. But it's nice to know there is a solution if it develops into a problem in the future.

                  Thanks!

does anybody have anymore information about the lever upgrade? I have lost the knobs several times. The dealer where i bought the boat send me the new levers but i'm not sure how to install them. Has anybody done there own install? It looks like you could drill and tap the opposite side of the tower base but i wanted to see what others are doing before i do this.

                    Thanks!

Kasey- Did your retrofit kit not come with the directions? They are pretty easy to follow. If not, I could scan and email them to you (or fax).
