    Rotella Engine Oil

So I just ordered some Rotella 15w-40 and I was having trouble finding some threads about the use of it in boats. Is Rotella a good brand? I got that and a Bosh premium oil filter... My old time mechanic is no longer with me and he used to use 4 quarts of 15w-40 along with a quart of straight SAE 30... I was just trying to see if this sounds like something I should continue to do. I was operating the boat in Maryland where it got a little colder in the winter but I wasn't using the boat then either. Should I just use 5 quarts of the Rotella? I'm in Southern California.. not sure if that matters. Also I have read that this is a deisel oil... how does that come into play when putting it on a gas engine? I have the 350 MAG MPI motor in a 2001 21V... My search engine might be acting funny becauseI'm certain there has to be more posts about this. Thanks! Any help or posted link to some discussion on this matter would be great.. I found one but I wanted something sspecific to the Rotella brand in general.

Search for Rotella and WABoating, he had a good thread on that subject. Even though it says diesel it's the correct oil weight.

I use Rotella and love it. I first started running Rotella in my dirt bikes. I continued using it when I bought my diesel car and started using it in my Tige. I buy it at Walmart for $12-$13 a gallon. The 15-40 is easy to find in SC, 10-30 is harder.

Specifically, if your engine wants 15W-40 CJ-4/SM, you want Rotella T. There are several variations of Rotella available and they are not the same. Check your engine's specs for what it wants. It was very difficult for me to find 15W-40 with the proper CJ-4/SM rating until I happened across Rotella T.

Rotella T was the only thing I could find locally without going to a specific marine dealer.

I use Shell Rotella T 15W-40 in the boat and Jet Skis. I get it at Walmart for $12.97/gal.

I did a brief write up on it here a few years back as Rotella T 15w-40 was the only regular non synthetic oil to continue carrying the zinc additives package. I use it in every engine we rebuild except Detroit Diesel as they call for Delo 100. I no longer use it in my personal fleet as I'm a dealer for Amsoil and love their product but I also have bypass filtration and other modifications on all our engines and run 1000 hour oil changes on our boats and salvage equipment, with oil analysis of course.
H20sk8tr, my company is contracted with one of the fuel docks in Newport Beach to perform all the oil changes they schedule there. When we started that process, I made them change all of their oil weights over to Shell Rotella T with the 15w-40 weight being the engine oil we use in everything from older flat tappet cam gas engines to the new 8.1/496 roller cams like our engines and the 1700HP MANN diesels I did yesterday. The stuff is great but the EPA will figure out a way to screw it up eventually. Just as a comparison, we sell it for $21.99 and I know Wal Mart carries it for $13/gal, but what's everyone else paying for it nation wide?
