Have just recently purchased and imported a 2010 rz2 from the US to Australia and I'm have some issues with the boat bouncing ( porpoising ) when I'm trying to wakeboard. It's has the surf ballast from factory and I have the taps set at 2 with just driver and 1 passenger any ideas on how to stop this?? I'm thinking more weight in the nose would help but I want to avoid manual fat sacks because we use the boat for skiing and they are a pain.

I would first confirm that the TAPS plate is moving correctly. Next, at what speed are you riding at? And how much weight are you running in the rear and how much are you running in the front? With the surf ballast, you have the potential to run 1200 lbs. This is way to much IMO, with only the 600 lbs available in the bow. Most seem to agree that the RZ2 likes about a 60% front to 40% rear split or a 50/50 at the least. Too much in the rear and most any tow boats will porpoise.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

My speed is 24.8 mph and I have checked the plate and it's operating correctly. I'm using the full ballasts option which I believe is 1600 lbs not sure as too how this is deistributed but the bag in the front fills in less then half the time it takes for the back bags to fill. I'm a very competent wakeboarder so I'm trying to achieve the biggest wake I can get without the porpoising

As noted above, if you are filling the 2 rear surf sacs, you are putting 1200 in the rear. The front sac only holds 600 at the most.
*Disclamer* Tige bills out the bow ballast as 400#, but I know that sac holds more in the RZ2.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Yes. I would run less rear weight or add more bow.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Same problem in my RZ2, if I max out all ballast and only have a few people in the boat I have to have them ride either up front or close to the driver, never in the rear seat as the added weight that far back will cause the boat to porpoise.
Yeah what the others have said if you want to run FULL ballast in the rear, you're going to need more weight up front to get that 60/40% balance the RZ2 likes.
I put some 25lb weight plates up in the bow near the trailer tow hook under the bow seat access panel. It's just 100lbs of permanent weight that won't get in the way of the front U-ballast bag I have. It replicates another person sitting up there and actually gives me more control with the TAPs when running around empty.Last edited by Vicseek; 11-27-2012, 04:20 PM.2010 Tige RZ2 "Fully Loaded" 650hrs

Haha this is funny because I knew this would be a problem when working with the surf set up... for people who strictly surf and wakeboard with no ballast it works out fine but start mixing wakeboarding and filling the tanks 100% you are far from balanced my Rz2 with the pro ballast even likes more bow weight than stock. I have ran up to roughly 4,500lbs a few times and we would roughly end up with 2,100lbs up front and 2400 in the rear plus 3 people in the boat running taps at 5 speed 24.8 and ACME 1235 prop with the PCM409. The stock prop can really only handle in my opinion with the stock prop 2,500lbs plus 5 people and it's maxed out. To prevent porpoising you have 3 options 1. decrease speed 2. add bow weight 3. dump stern weight. The ACME1235 makes a big difference on all aspects of handling, power, and ability to maintain speed when turning much more efficiently.

ID love to see a video of your boat with 4,500 lbs of ballast get to wakeboarding speed with a 1235 prop! thats 8,650 lbs of weight with no one in the boat and a empty tank of fuel.
Id just like to see all the bags full in a video and then you showing it getting to 20+mph.... I just dont see that prop and a 409 even coming close!www.1320diesel.com Home of the Fastest Diesels!

I'm confident those were what my numbers ended up being for the day we ran the most ballast we ever have but thats running off the top of my head I have a notebook where I wrote everything down I'll look in it tomorrow and see what I have in there. I just remember that we used a close to a 55/45 ration instead of the 60/40 ratio if only the lake wasn't frozen or if the boat was going to be around this spring I'd snag one when the ice goes out for you.
Here's a link where I started getting the idea's of adding a little more to it http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13695Last edited by rensink; 12-07-2012, 07:18 AM.

Yes I dont see the boat getting to 20 mph. I have test with that weight and the 1235 wouldnt even get to 10mph. and I have a 409. With the 2315 prop I can get to speed with 4k ballast and only the driver and one passanger in the boat.. Any more and no dice.. I have another prop with way more pitch to try that should allow me to run full weight and a full boat of passangers..
So yes I would like to see video of your boat with said weight and prop so I can believe it.. =)www.1320diesel.com Home of the Fastest Diesels!

Speed: 24.8
Taps: 5
People: 3 total estimated weight -425 (140#, 125#, 160#)
Pro ballast - 2,200 (feel as though the bow fills closer to 1000)
Sacs - 1000lb couch (capable of 1200) rear
Sacs - 500lbs bow
Fuel est - 288lbs (48 gallons x 6)
total weight: 4,413 (estimated)
Rope 75ft
To me I guess I consider people and fuel ballast take them out of the equation it's 3700lbs
All that's in the boat for gear is life jackets for people on board and couple boards. Ran this set up 2-3 times trying to dial in and never got a consistently clean wake I only have 1 picture of a 500lb sac on the bow I can post, waiting for a buddy to see if he has any of the couch sac in it. I wish I was going to able to snag a few videos of it this spring but it won't be around.
Another thing to take into account is I see you're in colorado and if you're boating at 5-6000ft in elevation your zr409 is now only making anywhere from 356 -346hp where we boat it's just shy of 1500 feet so we're 391 roughly not saying that's the reason, nor does this need to turn into a pissing contest of who has more hp, more weight, etc. i'll search my laptop for pictures but otherwise this spring I'll try something similar in a z3 and get a video for you. Spring... just so far away
