    BALLAST INTAKE SCREEN?????

i own a 04 riders edition, new to me this summer. and i know its late in the game but just now getting the ballast tanks up and running. I had to replace 4 out of 8 pumps, fuses and some wiring. anyways my question is.... Has anyone see or has a stainless screen at the mouth of there ballast instake???

My intake opening is about an inch and 3/8 wide. BUT it has two prongs opposing each other. I think its a combo of plastic and brass. I guess i would like to filter that water to keep out weeds and other aquatic debri. We have Zebra muscles also that i would hate to spread.(those bastards)!! i know somebody will help me out. tige owners.com is the S*%t!!!

    thanks alot-PETE

    Pete,

What you need is actually a bronze intake grate. It will screw to the hull over the OD of the thru-hull flange, rather then inside the ID of the opening. Whats the OD of that mushroom....looks like a 1" thru-hull with a 3" OD? I may have one laying around unused from a previous install, that I would make you a good deal on.

Wow that would be great if ya had an extra. the OD of the mushroom is three inches. so i would have to drill and tap to mount the screen huh? suppose there aren't many alternatives? thanks and let me know

one more quick question for ya. You don't happen to know a good teak oil do ya. I been using Meguiars, but it doesn't see to give the teak a rich dark look. plus it seems dry out the next day. anyways thanks again and let me know about that screen.

The grate would actually completely cover the shrum and be secured to the hull, not the flange of the shrum.

There are quite a few teak oil brands used by peeps here and they have good results. One trick is to keep applying coats, with time to soak in in between, until the teak stops soaking it up. Then wipe off the access. I have used Star Brite in the past and likes it. I used one from Boat Life last season on a customers deck and it still looked decent this season.

I have been using a product called cetol on my swim platform. It is expensive ($40)but is very durable and will last 1-2 seasons of full sun.

For the teak I use Watco Teak Oil Finish.

X2^^^^^^^^^ that stuff is awesome, I took my old swim step apart completely and sanded it down, then put the teak in a storage bin filled with Watco and let it sit for about a week and keep refilling with oil till it was almost black it was so dark. Put it back together, and added one more coat by brush I got tons of compliments on it and it didn't get slick when wet either.
