Speedo Question

The rubber hose on the speedo pickup has a nut. What is the purpose of this? It doesn't seem to even thread onto it. Also just above the fuel tank is where the hose hooks up to another cylinder type unit. It also doesn't thread on. Should I just get rid of the nut and zip tie it on?

the nut holds the hose from blowing off the speedo pick up. the brass cylinder has barbs on it to keep the hose on. this cylinder works like a pressure tank keeping the speedo gauge from bouncing.
