    serpentine belt residue.

Just finished winterizing my 2003 21i w\ Mercruiser 350 mag engine & have to ask if it's normal to have belt residue all over engine compartment & engine\hoses\etc. Motor has about 100 hours on it, no belt change to date...It does seem like the upper right idler pulley has sharp ridges...Anyone know if there is a fix? Maybe the pulley is out of alignment w\ the others?

I think Merc builds them that way. They all seem to get the dust every where, even in the breather element so a good cleaner is in order also.

I had the same question for my mechanic and he also said it was normal as well. Lee is correct in cleaning the breather on the carb. Mine gets full of that stuff.

YOU MIGHT ALSO CHECK YOUR ENGINE COVER AS YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH CLEARANCE AND IF PEOPLE PUT THERE FEET UP ON THE COVER FROM FRONT IT PUSHES OUT OF SQ. THEY ALSO REDESIGNED THE BELT FOR THE BETTER. I ALSO CARRY A SPARE. IF YOU THROW A BELT YOU'RE DEAD MEAT.
