    Oil Pressure

I had the boat (2007 22Ve)out one more time last weekend and experienced a problem I wanted to get some input on. As I was cruising down the lake the alarm sounds and I quickly drop the boat to idle and start checking gauges. Oil pressure is normal, temp is normal...everything seems alright. So I start off again and 5 mins later it happens again but this time I noticed the oil pressure dropped from 48 to 34 at about 3500 rpm. So I turn off the engine and check the level and the stick is showing a quart low. The level was fine when I first got the boat on labor day weekend and have but about 15 hrs on it since then.

So I put a quart in her and the pressure runs up to 62 psi at 3500 rpm's which it is usually at 53. As the days goes on the pressure drops down to 52.

Is this normal for the pressure to vary this much at the same rpm range?

Before I bought the boat I had a compression test done and it was all good so how could I be losing a quart of oil in 15 hrs?

Another strange thing I notice was it I put the oil dipstick in one way it showed nothing on the level. When I rotated it back 180 degrees where it was it showed normal. Is there only one position you can put this dipstick in?

    Thanks for the input

Are you checking it on the trailer or in the water?
I check mine in the water, as the trailer will change the reading depending on how it parked.

What grade of oil did you add?
Tige, it's a way of life!

I experienced the exact same problem. Completely drained the boat and added brand new oil. Then checked level so that i had a base line and knew where it should be since i was told engine could be mounted at angle making dip stick reading in-accurate. I then check level each time before i head out.

someone said i lost oil due to surfing, all of the oil was pooling to the back of the pan and was being burned off. Were you surfing alot?

Your engine is actually mounted at less of an angle then in a DD. But, in 06/07 some of the Marine Power engines for V-drives got a DD dipstick tube. This resulted in an incorrect oil level in those engine. DO a search for oil level recall, the info can be found in a couple threads.

Outside of the recall, knowing the oil level is correct is crucial.

I received the service bulletin on the oil dipstick from Marine Power and wanted to share it in case it may pertain to others but the file was to big to upload. If anyone is interested send me a message w/ an email and I will send it to ya.
