I have recently changed the TAPs motor on a 21i and as you no doubt know the TAPs2 has a greater range than the ordinary TAPs. What I was wondering is, will it be necessary to change the TAPs indicator on the dash or is there an adjustment to make it compatible with the TAPs2 range?

Tested the boat yesterday with interesting results. The wakeboard wake was big and really clean on top. I tested the wakeboard setting at 22mph with no weight other than 5 people but as the TAPs moved from slalom to full wakeboard setting the wake got bigger and bigger and cleaner and crisper which looked really awesome. I didn't ride behind the boat basically because it was about 0 degrees. The slalom wake was good but if the TAP's were set right on the limit of the slalom setting it put up a hugh rooster basically it was lifting the stern of the boat too much. This would be a good thing if you happened to have a lot of weight in the back. A friend of mine is going to change his TAPs to TAPs2 now based on this but he has 2No. propane gas tanks in the rear ski locker so that would be perfect for him.
A skier did slalom behind the boat and with the TAPs set at 1 even with 4 adults in the boat the wake was really soft.
All in all I think it is worth considering.

The boat starts on petrol and when it had warmed up it transfers to run on LPG. The LPG is stored in 2No. 200 litre storage tanks located in the rear ski locker. As you say obviously there are safety issues but thats how all commercial ski schools in the uK run its too expensive for them to do anything else.
I personally run my boats on petrol but it costs approximately £1500 - £2000 to convert to LPG and it is done by qualified gas installers and certified and tested on a regular basis.

wow that is crazy. Had no idea that ski boats were running on Propane now too. That's kinda cool. So how much did it cost to convert to taps2. Is it worth it? etc. I would consider doing it as well. Plus can I do it myself, or do I need a dealer? I like to do my own work. Thanks

The TAP's is really easy to change, it's basically 3 screws and 2 wires to connect. The most difficult thing is cutting the existing cable ties. There is one right at the stern of the boat just outside arms reach but with a bit of effort you can manage it.
The TAPs motor was a factory replacement so there was no cost the original motor was faulty so I con't comment on the cost, sorry.

To change from the taps to the taps2 there is more than a lot of people realize. The taps system had a 2 ram system and used hydralics. The new taps 2 system is a single ram and electric. This new system was designed to give more throw due to the changes (continuious rocker ) in the hulls. If you were to change from the original taps to the new taps 2 there will be gel coat that would need to be accomplished, and you would need to modify the swim step brackets. The older boats used 3 brackets on the swim step and using the taps 2, we only have two swim step brackets. Sorry so long, but that is the info.

You are correct in what you say, the original TAP's systems were hydraulic but the TAP's motors on the '03 boats was electric, exactly the same as TAPS2 with the only exception being the extent of travel of the ram. Therefore, if you are changing from this TAPs motor to the TAPs2, as I did, it is really easy as it is a direct replacement and is literally remove 3 screws, cut 3 cable ties and disconnect 2 wires and redo it all again with the new motor. Oh and obviously remove the old cable and pull in the new one.

Brandan you are correct on the 03 TAPS models can be replaced however can not be replaced with the TAPS 2 system. The first 03's that came out had a shorter throw and we extended that, this is what you exchanged, this did not make your system a TAPS 2 system. On the 04's the throw is a 2 inch stroke and the brian will not interchange between 03 and 04, this controls the travel and the gauge. The placement of the ram was also changed on the plate and transom to allow further up travel to let the boats transom settle into the water deeper, producing a bigger wake. Not trying to get into a debate but do not want others being confused. The orginial Taps was made by Bennett and then for 03 Taps was manufactured by Lenco and now TAPS 2 for 04 manufactured by Lenco, as you can see there is a difference.

Thank you Andrew I didn't realise that the TAPs2 was changed so much and yes you are correct. I changed the Lenco moter with a new one with a greater range of travel.
I will be able to see the TAPs2 for the first time next week as my local dealer has this years new model arriving then.
