    Trim Tabs

Hi I purchased a 2007 RZ2 last season and absolutely love it except coming from a regular runabout which was more stable I have found it a bit challenging. Has anyone ever put on after market trim tabs? What make did you go with, how did you find them re:attaching any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

          Trim Tabs

Maybe stable was the wrong word, there are many morning my wife and I go out for a ski without the kids and would like to have the ability to stabalize (or level) from side to side?

Does it lean or is not stable to a certain side? Do you have stuff in the storage compartments? Is this when one of you is riding and the other is driving and no one else is on the boat?

If so, you might be able to move stuff so that it offsets the drivers weight. If you have a ballast system as KKO asked you could partially fill the side that is high and needs to be leveled down.

So you go out with just your Wife?
                  no third

Wouldn’t side to side also be an issue on an I/0
I thought there tab plates were tied into only one switch and not control independently.

Most ski boats are very sensitive to weight adjustments in the boat. As other have said, you will need to add ballast to the passenger side to level the boat or add two more trim tabs and a separate controller. As you have found out, the TAPS trim tab is centered on the boat and it adjusts the angle of attack of the running surface, also called bow rise. It does not level the boat port to starboard. If your boat has a built in ballast system you could add a little to the passenger side. If not a few bags of lead or sand bags or small water filled bags to even out the wake. Or the most costly would be to add a regular trim tab system, that will work too.

When I was in TX I did that with my wife all the time. It's legal there as long as you have a 4" ski mirror.

I/Os have wider hulls and more lifting chines to help level the boat underway. Many of the 22' and up I/Os are even using two trim tabs to help level the boat underway. The trim tabs used to be more common on bigger boats, such as 26' and up. The one switch on the I/O for trim that you are thinking is for the drive unit and it behaves just like the TAPS plate, up switch makes the bow go up, down switch and nose goes down.

I used to have a Correct Craft Sport Nautique, which always stayed super flat regardless of wind/weight/turning. We love our 2007 RZ2, but I agree that it is very sensitive underway to wind or weight and will tilt one way or the other. Never concerned that it will heel over too much, but it is a nuisance and the only way to correct is to move people. One more thing, maybe twice I've felt the condition that if the boat was heeled way over due to weight, it really didn't want to turn well so I throttled back and moved passengers.

What do you have taps set at, all the way down will tilt more then 2, I slalom at 2 and find less drop in the center and no listing.

I have considered putting spearate tabs on my 20i to help get the surf wake I want. I'd like to see this set up if anyone has done it... and see how it affects the surf wake.
