Has anybody had water leaking out of there mufflers inside the boat? Is it possable to fix the fiberglass muffler or is it always better to just replace them. Just curious how bad a little leak is?
Both of mine had this issue. Took both out and used jb weld on them and then covered in 3m 5200. Works and no leaks since. My sort of local tige dealer told me its a pretty common issue.
Basically the thing is glassed together. The male and female end on both weren't glassed well. I pulled them apart, then put JB weld on the connection and then covered in quick cure 5200. Then I covered in the stock carpet. Looks good.
Nice work duffymahoney! 3M 5200 is the "duct tape" of the liquid sealant world. If you can fix it with 5200 you need to replace it, just make sure its done right the first time cause 5200 is darned near impossible to remove.
its a 2003 22v with the 315hp merc. thanks for the info guys. just checking my options dealer says they have to lift up the motor a few inches to be able to pull out the muffler.
Hey guys here is a pic of the leaking area. Its right by the decal and its a 90 degree fitting so Im not sure if I can get it out without lifting the motor?
yes once I get the boat in my possesion I'm going to look at it much closer. I'm just not sure because I remember the muffler going under the motor mount. It looks like they are just held on by hose clamps? Duffy did you have good long term luck with patching yours? Looks like you have your boat dialed in. I'm hoping to do a full custom ballast install this winter. Any advice on set up?
Duffy did you have the same exhaust set-up with the 90's in it when you did yours? Not sure what you mean about the ballast thread but when I get close I will start one to see what input I get. It just seems like you have alot of experience with it. And you seem like a real good source for surfing set ups.

thanks
I had a crack in my right one down by the neck where the hose slides on. I repaired mine with JB weld and it's held for a whole season. Fiberglass isn't hard to fix, as long as you clean the area good and rough it up so the epoxy will take. I just repainted the muffler after I patched it, and it's working great.
