    Fuel Problem?

I have a 2000 21V. Backed off the throttle and it acted like it ran out of gas. It tried to restart a couple times. Maybe ran for a second or 2. Now nothing. Anyone have any ideas.

On mine, any loose connection on the temp sending units, hobbs switch, or pressure switches and the fuel pump will stop running. My fuel pump makes a discernable noise when it runs, so it's pretty easy to know when it's the problem. I'd check the connections to all the sending units loop.
If you arent mechanical, then you will likely need some pics to point out which devices these are on your motor. Hit me up if you need.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am reasonably mechanical and I will check those switches tonight. But what is a hobbs switch? I do hear the fuel pump kick on as soon as I turn the key.

If the pump is working, then it's not the sending units. If its a carb boat, take the air cleaner off and look into the bowl when you depress the accelerator pump on the side of the carb. (manually operate the throttle at the carb).
If it squirts fuel, then fuel aint your issue. If its not fuel... well then it's ignition.

There are many threads in here about injected boats. Do a search, and if you get a sec, send ChpThril a message about it. He's a wizard with the injected boats, as are a few others in here.

Is there a quick easy way to tell if fuel is getting to the injectors?

There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail. I have used that to hook up a fuel pressure gauge.

Saw the valve but I don't have a fuel pressure gauge. I disconnected the fuel line to the rail and a fair amount of gas came out of the rail. I'm beginning to think it may be an ignition problem as bigdaddy says. Pulled distributer cap and a plug and they look good.

Did you check to see if you were getting spark?

A fuel injection system will not operate without sufficient fuel pressure. Fuel present in the lines, or even a little spurt of fuel from the valve when its depressed, is not an indication that the pump is producing the correct fuel pressure or supplying ample pressure. You will need a fuel pressure gauge and the specs to determine this. Even a pump that sounds like its running could still be suspect.

If it will start then die after a couple of seconds it could also be the IAC. Mine was doing this as well. Once it started if I gave it gas and it would run. Once I returned to idle it died.

Also make sure your gas is good....no water.

Its always the simple things that get me.

Not sure what the IAC is. I did put about 20 gallons of gas from a marina that morning. Maybe water in it?
