I am having all kinds of overheating issues with my boat, and i just replaced the water pump. It is a 2003 Tige with a 350 mercruiser. I can idle around and just cruise fine but when i plane it out or pull anyone it almost instantly overheats. I let it idle and it cools right back down. It doesnt always overheat but it's frustrating to deal with cause i never know when it is gonna happen. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Several issues can be present for this:
1. Impeller rubber parts in the water system blockingg ports.
(pull hoses and backflush the system)
2. Stuck thermostat.
(replace the thermostat)
3. Plugged transmission cooler.
Pull the hoses and backflush to the street from the top)
4. Impeller blades flipped backwards, depending on the model pump.
(re-install the impeller)
5. Blown head gasket.
(check for water in the oil)
6. Sand or debris build up in engine block.
(backflush the block)
Lots of different things cause overheating. Id say your fist move is the tranny cooler. If your last pump tore apart, the blades may be in the hose or in the water inlet on the intake manifold. Dont be afraid to start taking that cooling system apart. Boats get more crap in there water system. So this monkey walks into a bar...

Until I added a sea strainer, I would get one stalk of hydrilla stuck in that trans cooler and the transmission would overheat. Be careful clearing as the water can be hot when you have been running. Sea strainer resolved this problem permanently. Also, remember you are supposed to change the trans fluid if it overheats, it should be pink/red and pleasant smelling, if is brownish or has a burned odor change it, it is only a few bucks for the fluid.

Check your exhaust system while on the hose. Make sure you have water coming out of both exhausts. If not, then Pull the hoses going into the bottom of the manifolds. Make sure you have water going into them. If you don't have water then you can backtrack from there, to your pump, etc. If you do have water, then you need to start looking at your manifolds and heads. More than likely it'd be a manifold.Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.
