    belt broke on 09

yesterday we were on the lake and the serpentine belt broke on my z1. its an easy change once i find a compatible belt but i am just surprised it broke on such a new boat (120 hrs). im just checking here to see if thats the normal life or if i should be looking for causes.

also, is there something special about the r066028 belt the manual calls for? closest dealer is 100 miles away and local shops say theyd have to order it. id like to go to the lake again tomorrow. if nothings diff ill just go to oreillys - what length and spec do i need for a good alternate option?

You need to find out what made it fail. That is not normal. If you can get the right length a napa or auto parts belt will work fine.

Def not normal after just over 100+ hours. Check pulleys too see if the nut securing them are loose or not. Also check the play in the pulley bearings by grabbing pulley and shaking straight up and down on them. If you have some play that could cause early belt wear. Also just make sure something didn't shift and was rubbing on belt.

In regards to belt, measure your belt and then go get same length from any napa checkers, etc. They will work fine and cost less. Buy a spare as well just as a weekend saver.

Another thing to check: All the pulleys must be perfectly in line. If one is out of line (how?), it will wear the side of the belt VERY fast and cause belt failure.

Report back so we can all learn from your experience!
