New Tige' Owner, I have a few questions.

Okay, so this may sound retarded but I have no clue about this boat. I recently inherited my uncle's ski boat. I only know it's a 1997 Tige' I'm not sure of the model. It has a chevy 307 in it, and I think it's a direct drive, don't quote me on that as I'm not sure. The questions that I have here are: Why does this thing have 2 speedometers on it, and yes it does have a tachometer as well, but there are 2 gauges side by side at the very top of the cluster that are MPH. Also I keep hearing about the TAPS system, Did that come on the 1997's? I'm thinking it's the button on the throttle lever, again I'm not quite sure. I'm just trying to learn more about this boat, if anyone can give me any information or if I need to provide more pics I would be happy to provide them. I live in a small town and the nearest decent marine mechanic is 45 miles away from me and I work 16 hour days and dont have time to take during the week. Eventually I will have to do it but in the mean time I would appreciate any knowledge on this boat, and what the options are and what makes Tige' Superior to all. I keep hearing great things about these boats, and I'm considering keeping it. Again thank you all for your time and I apologize for the newbie questions.

    Boats and Hoes!

Welcome to the site. The pic didn't show up on your post. Is there any designation on the boat such as 2150, pre2000wt, anything like that? The two speedos are for slalom skiing. Perfectly normal and funky dope old school. On the back of the boat there should be two little black tubes out near the corners. Those are the speedo pickups. The big black plate in the middle is the Taps. It's just a trim tab. It is opperated by that switch on the throttle.

What kind of condition is it in? Are you new to boating or just this boat?
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Here is the pic you tried to post:

TAPS is the adjustable metal plate at the back of the transom - basically it acts like a trim tab to adjust the attitude of the boat, which will change the shape of the wake. The button on the throttle lever is to control TAPS. TAPS at "1" will move the plate all the way down, pushing the rear of the boat up and generally giving a flatter wake (better for skiing). The higher the TAPS setting, the more is raises the plate and allows the rear of the boat to settle into the water more (better for wakeboarding).

Nice looking boat, and welcome to tigeowners. Hopefully you will learn a lot that will help you to enjoy it and keep it in good shape.

Say! A closed deck. I'd say its a pre2000. More pics please. Running gear, motor, interior.

          Is that a windshield wiper?

Is it just me or does that trailer look a little askew? Like from the fenders back. Why is the guide post so close to the boat? Pics of that too please.

Do you have the bimini for it?

Hey guys thanks for replying back. I am a completely new boat owner, I've been into cars and motorcycles, but always wanted a boat. I dont have the bimini for it, the tower looked to be a homemade tower, there's a crack on one of the welds so I took the tower off. It has 385 hours on it, not bad for a 97 from my understanding. I noticed the carb is running a little rich, I smelled it on the plugs. I'm real anal when it comes to engines, and well it seemed my uncle was no mechanic. It's in good condition though, lookin to replace the carpet, a couple of small tears, seems rotten, no biggie there. Had new upholstery 2 years ago. Not sure about anything on the trailer make etc. That does look like a windshield wiper in the pic, but it's actually an antenna. I'll have to look for something that indicates the model. It was repainted a couple of years ago, and it looks like theres a few engine upgrades as far as msd ignition, holley carb, and what looks to be an edelbrock manifold, again not sure about that manifold or if it is one, just going from block experience from cars. I'll post up some interior, block, trailer and drive pics later today. Thanks again for replying, I wasnt sure if the boat had a ballast, and or how the taps exactly work, but you guys laid down the information very well and I thank you.

The little switch on the throttle lever is for Taps, yes. Push the button up and the taps gauge will go up as well as the plate on the transom.

Push it down and the gauge will go down, along with the plate.
              Waiting for another good one!

When you are in your album on photobucket and scroll over a picture, it pops up some options to "share" that photo. Click on the IMG part, it should flash "copied", then just paste that IMG code into your post on here. Voila!
