    Faulty fuel gauge

Anybody got a quick/easy tip for correcting a "stuck" fuel gauge? My 2003 24V (just bought it this summer) has fuel gauge stuck on FULL; it never moves.

Is it on full when the power is OFF?
if so, try tapping on the glass
Tige, it's a way of life!

mine stays on full but drops to E with the key off. It also works when the boat is on the trailer. Im thinking its because the pick up lines and sensor is at the rear of the tank and the boat naturally sits nose high under way and when sitting so the fuel is constantly being pushed to the rear of the tank

Any tips on this subject from anyone?

I also have the same problem on a 2003 20V. I just replaced the guage containing the fuel guage due to a faulty engine temp and oil pressure guage. My fuel guage was showing full zero so I opened up the floor to locate the sender and started pulling out and crimping the cables with new connectors, the guage then came alive & on full so I thought I was done with the problem but have since realised (do I have to admit I ran out of fuel? ) that it wasn't working!

It's a brand new original tige guage so I have tapped the glass of course but that wouldn't tend to help with a new guage anyway.

          Any tips welcome!

Must be a common problem during this era of production because mine almost always stays between 3/4 and full. I've thought about installing a fuel flow gauge/meter, but in the meanwhile have just refueled after each use. Might as well use the gas as ballast also!

Sounds like a grounding issue. I'd follow the wires to the fuel tank and see if your grounding connection is loose or corroded.

Thanks. I've already looked at the top of the sender, photo attached. I'd noticed that it seemed that a grounding wire had been clipped in the past and also that the black wire to the left in the picture was doubled up so I wonder if one of those two wires is meant to ground the tank itself?

Has anyone got a photo of a working sender set up?

Also I was thinking of replacing the sender anyway and I can only get 22020082 from the part number as the rest of the sticker is messed up. Does anyone know the full part number? Otherwise I guess I'll just get a standard fuel sender as they seem to be pretty common.

I just bought a 2004 knowing the fuel gage did not work. I was considering replacing the sender. The part no as read from the sender is 2202082 11/02 but have been unsuccessful in locating this part on the web.

There are ground wires grounding the tank to help fight corrosion... Electrolisis (spell check) is what I believe they call it. Best thing to do is see if your getting continuity throughout the wires. If something doesn't seem right run new wires. The gauge more than likely isn't faulty since it moves with the key off an on. Or could be bad sending unit but if you are ruling that out then try the other stuff...

Yep, I owe you a beer. After polishing every ground I could find, I discovered The gnd tab adjacent to the sender was not grounded.
