    350 MAG MPI 2000 2100V Diagnosis

No start condition first time ever. Not happy, but time to get to work figuring it out. I went through posts all over to check the basics and apparently it is an ignition issue. I am now going thru a Thunderbolt Ignition diagnosis flow chart for no spark-condition and it indicates my igntion module (another identifies it as a ignition amplifier) may need to be replaced. However, when I go the schematics and part lists, I dont see it listed?? I would expect it to be under ignition parts or electrical parts but dont see it. Can anyone tell me where it would be or offer any opinions?

Boy, I'm not sure exactly. Stay patient, lots of people here know just what to do. Of course, most of them are out on the lake today.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

The ignition module is located inside the distributor under the rotor. There is an infrared pickup that sends spark every time the window on the rotor passes by. It has two wires on it, white with green stripe and white with red stripe, both have bullet connectors and connect externally from the distributor. Sierra part number 18-5116-1 $30, mercruiser part number 87-892150Q02 $65. The new units have an epoxy coating and a ground wire that must be connected as well as the white with green and white with red bullet connectors.

So it's what I see in the parts lists as the "ignition sensor" or is it different?
Also, any opinion on the sierra vs mercruiser part? I like the savings but want to use the right stuff.

Ignition sensor is correct and I've had no issues using Sierra on customer's boats, it's usually just a matter of availability.

Very happy to report we are back in action. I found the mercruiser model locally, $67.00 (could have gotten cheaper online, but....) Started up smoother and ran better than before the problem developed. In case you havent had this problem yet, the new component looks much more ballistic. Clad in plastic and epoxy to hold up to the elements. Also, I intended to attach a service advisory I came across online but can no longer find, which recommeded that service techs replace this first for no-start situations where ignition has been determined to be the issue.
            Thanks Boatwakes for the input.
