Can I use Cruse Control and Speedometer together

    Good day all,

I have a 2004 20v and recently I got the shop to install a Stargazer Wake perfect pass system. When they installed it they disconected the speedo and connected it to the stargazer and told us it would take 3 or more hours at 119 dollars to make it so both work.

I was just wondering if you folks know how hard it is to make both work and is it worth doing?

thank you in advance for your help.

Most people pull out the OEM speedo head and install the PP speedo unit in its place. This leaves them with a tach and digital speedo. IMO, this is better then cutting a new 3: hole in the dash and having two speedos. Is that what you're asking?

Stargazer works off GPS. Not sure why they would need the paddlewheel from the boat to run stargazer.

CHPTRIL - there was a place on the dash for the original Cruise control, so no new hole had to be cut.

Zad- they use the paddle wheel for calibration of the ski function.

I guess my real question is, is there a way to split the feed from the paddle wheel so the speedo and the GPS each get a feed?

Thank you both for a quick reply

So what was in the hole before the stargazer?

Zad may know for sure, but I thought the stargazer PP could use the paddle wheel as a backup or for rivers with current, but I still gotta ask why you want two speedos? To do this, I think you would have to add another transducer through the bottom of the boat.

I'm just stating that mine has no input from the paddlewheel whatsoever. Both my Stargazer and speedo still work as normal.

The idea of the paddlewheel for calibration makes no sense to me. Stargazer gets it's speed input from GPS. Slalom mode runs off of RPMs. The only reason why stargazer would ever need a paddlewheel is if you were running in a river, with a current. When we bought our system from Perfect Pass they actually gave us a "special" edition that could use both Paddlewheel or GPS by switching the wires. Now maybe the system's they are selling today are capable of doing that. But why they would both be connected beats me.

Could you please chat more about this? We have a PP Stargazer and the speedo with paddlewheel works too. I didn't do the install so don't ask why there are two speeds. I just bought it this way. Are you saying that I might be able to have the PP run off the paddle wheel or off the GPS depending on what I want? I do run on the river a lot and wouldn't mind trying this out if it was able to be done. I have gotten use to using the PP on the river just takes one run up river and one down to self calibrate (me remembering the numbers) for the rest of the day.

How could I check to see if mine can do this double duty stuff?

@whiteram - we use the PP and almost never look at the OEM speedo but that might be a bad thing on our part. Heck for all I know the PP Stargazer unit might already be doing double duty and I just don't know it. Thanks for the question you posted.

The stargazer replaced the tige cruise control that came with the boat in 2004. The Tige CC was not working and the mechanic stated that it was cheaper to place the stargazer in than try and find the Tige CC module.

i might have to look under the dash and see if they did connect the paddle wheel to the Stargazer or if there is just a loose cable back there.

Thank you everyone for your input

Press the menu and up keys together. Press menu and select "system info" with the up arrow. My version is 7.0.62 If you press menu again, it shows the # of hours and if you press menu again it says "GPS and Paddlewheel Enabled"

Hope your stargazer came with a tube of KY!. If your boat is indeed an 04, it had Perfect Pass and not the Tige Speed-Set that was released in 06. The only difference bewteen it and the aftermarket PP was Tige's lable on the control head. IIRC, those parts (Control head and servo) are still available from PP.

I honestly got bad vibs from that boat shop, I thought they did sketchy work. They also left the distributor unpluged so the boat did not start. Luckly after tweenty minutes at the pier I figured that out. I dont know if they are just lazy or working too quick. But in Alberta you are hard pressed to get your boat fixed becuase there is a two week wait in May just to get a boat looked at and by july they is usally a month wait. Alberta needs more boat mechanics and a few honest ones.

So I guess general warning that the boat shop in Ardie, Alberta that is named after a guy stuck on an island for a famous t.v show might not be a good place to get your tige fixed.
