    Radio Help - Part 2 (I'm Lost)

So I put a post up regarding when I get over around 1750 Rpm's the radio turns off and when I get below that it automatically turns back on - goes default to tuner, but comes on. The radio plays fine idling and as loud as you want.

So here is where it gets puzzling. I got it home and tried to replicate the issue and check the voltage output. I hooked up the fake lake and put the engine in neutral and reved it up with the radio on. No problem. So I engaged the prop and ran it up to about 2500 RPM and again no problem. The voltage meter read 13.4-13.6 at the highest level. I thought well maybe it was just having a bad day since I could not replicate the issue out of the water.

So I take the boat out today and low and behold once I get the boat above 1750 RPM it turns off. I put the boat in neutral in the water and revved it up and had no problems.

So the problem happens only when the boat is in the water proper engaged and above 1750 RPM - will play all day long below that and even with prop engaged so long as it is below 1750 RPM. Any ideas? Wired that something would cause this only in the water and moving.

    Suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not sure on the stereo issue, but never engage your prop while out of the water. It will ruin your shaft seal.

Thanks for the info - did not know that. Rarely have I done it and only for couple seconds to test this out. Learn something new everyday

Where is the power for your deck coming from.

I think you problem is gremlins and everyone know how to fix that

Check the volts under load at the problematic RPM's. Let us know what you find.

Also, is the stereo connected to it's own battery, or the starting battery?

The radio should be powered by it's own battery - I had two amp installed and the deck was rewired, but I have had it out with no problems since it was rewired. The voltage Gage on the read out varied from 13.4-13.6 under load and assuming the voltage read on the gauge cluster is correct.

Good point on the power wire from the head unit - I did notice the amps and the radio shut down. I know the amps are directly wired with 4 gauge to the battery and fused. Weird that it automatically comes back on with no user input. Acts like the battery was disconnected and then reconnected as it reverts to tuner regardless of what it was playing before.

I am going to check tomorrow, but it does not makes sense the only time you could replicate is when it moving in the water? Do you know of any shared wiring where the radio is installed. Perhaps that would be a good place to rule out. If it were water then it would not come back on. I guess an easy fix would be to take the hot wire from the radio and run it to the power block that feeds the amp (assuming it is already not).

I assume the power wire is red and ground is black on the Clarion head units? I know the remote on/off amp wire is blue.

Yellow is power/mem and black is ground. Sounds like the head-unit is loosing B+ or GND as it defaults to tuner when it comes back on. You need to get a volt meter on the back of the head-unit while on the water when you can duplicate the problem.

Loose wire I'm sure somewhere. Loosing contact when the boat is moving.
