    haqve you changed or regapped your spark plugs lately? also check your injectors for leaking fuel. A bad injector isolator or o-ring can cause issues especially up top. A dirty injector can do the same thing. It sounds like either a spark plug issue or and injector issue.

      fuel pressure? clean flame arrestor? Check plugs? Run some fuel injector cleaner in the tank.

          Thanks for all the help guys!...I changed plugs, wires, rotor & cap. Dumped 2 cans of Seafoam in. The boat is back to 4500 rpm & 43 mph with no FAE!...Installing FAE tonight & back to the lake tommorow for another try.
          stay tuned! ( I hope it works!)

            So how is the speed now with the FAE on it and all the clean up work you did? Got the speed back or is he FAE hampering the performance?

                  Excellent!~

                  Today was my first outing at full speed with my FAE. Quiet, no degradation in performance and no exhaust smell.

                      I run Seafoam in every gallon of fuel. 0.5 to 1.0 ounces per gallon. Yeah, it costs a bit but it keeps things clean. The gallon cans go on sale at NAPA occasionally, and I stock up.

                      When I was running a 240HP two stroke I would run a very strong Seafoam mix once per season to decarbon the engine. Smoked like a campfire, but the difference was very noticeable. I used to get particulate buildup on my plugs, but not after I started decarboning regularly. I'm not sure that four strokes need such regular decarboning since they're not (intentionally) passing oil through the fuel system and cylinders.

                      There are lots of "fuel additives" out there and I'm suspicious of most, but Seafoam is the real deal.

                        I run Marine Stabil at recommended amounts with every tank. I understand Seafoam is going after different goals. But if I have to run gas with 10% ethanol, would sticking with Marine Stabil (over Seafoam) be advisable?

                          Warning: This can quickly become a near-religious discussion!

                          For me personally, I run Seafoam during the season and use Stabil for off-season storage. I wouldn't change that if I were using Ethanol fuel. As you say, the Seafoam is chasing a different goal. And while Seafoam claims to be a fuel stabilizer, I stick with Stabil for that function.

                          Hope this helps, and I guarantee the opinions of others will vary. {grin}

                            I use Stabil in any gas tank that will be sitting over the winter; Seafom goes in for the first tank of the season in the boat.
                            The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

                              I'm gonna stock with Stabil ethanol treatment for every tank. Seafoam is great stuff but I believe every tank is overkill. Seafoam serves a different purpose so if you use it every tank, you still need the ethanol treatment.

                                (I'm glad its not the FAE,) The boat is surging & popping at top end. It will rev fine in neutral but not under a load. The rpm's jumping from 3700 to 4200. The boat runs fine in evey other way.
                                fuel filter new at the end of last season, fresh tank of fuel. cap, rotor, plugs, wires 3 years ago. no water in fuel filter.
                                Anti siphon valve? sensor?....any ideas?
