    FAE EXAUST ISSUES

I just installed FAE on my 2001 21V. I love the quite ride, and no smell!...its awesome! The problem is, I have lost 5mph on the top end and cant get more than 4200 rpm. top speed is now 37mph.
i like to barefoot, but 37mph is to slow for me. The 42mph I used to get was marginal, but it worked ok. Any Ideas?

Oh come on... you love how the 37 mph blast of water smashes into your balls like a shovel full of 1" gravel... admit it.

I do so love my 383.... 385 HP... 460 lbs of torque... dead in the water to standing up in 7 seconds... (see the video.)

I can tell you what you need to get some power

stupid question, but i gotta ask.....is the down pipe facing the correct way? You did take the flaps off before bolting the flanges on, correct? Just trying to cover the easy stuff first.

      What prop are you running?

Can you tilt the tail pipe up for less drag? They say it doesnt hamper performance, but it has to. It has a big pipe sticking straight down.

prop is 14x18 1/2 stainless. I installed per the instructions, yes i removed the flaps. It looks like it would be hard to install wrong?
I want this thing to work, but if I cant figure it out,I think this FAE may be going into the classifieds.

Have you called Larry? I understand that he is very helpful. I am hoping to not lose any power since I just installed mine last night.

For wake-boarders and surfers, the loss of topend is not an issue, but for a footer, I could see it possibly being. Tilting it up too much and I think it would hamper its effectiveness.

Fleet, I would give ACME a call and see if they have a recommendation on getting back some RPM and topend without killing the hole-shot.

not yet, It may be some other issue with the boat? I pulled the fae off & am heading to the lake tomorrow to see if performance returns. I'll keep you posted!....let me know how it works for you. Thanks Dave

I was thinking the same thing. Unless you are a surfer, change to prop and reclaim that 5 mph you lost. Of course, you may have to adjust to a different type of pull getting out of the water.

Stainless? How old is that prop? It might just be time for a new one. I know that when I changed mine (factory OJ) it made a huge difference. I gained on both ends just by putting a modern CAD designed, CNC milled prop on.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I dont know how old the prop is, but it was on the boat when I purchased it in 2005. I am going to check into different prop options.
just back from the lake, no FAE, top speed 43 now! It is defenently the FAE holing the boat back. going to call Larry in the morning to see if he has any ideas.

5 mph...hmmm I hope it doesn't happen like that for me. With high altitude and all I need every drop of power. My FAE goes on tommorow.
my midlife crisis started at puberty and I plan on enjoying it all the way to the end..

Back to the lake today, No FAE, still have the top end performance issuue!
(I'm glad its not the FAE,) The boat is surging & popping at top end. It will rev fine in neutral but not under a load. The rpm's jumping from 3700 to 4200. The boat runs fine in evey other way.
fuel filter new at the end of last season, fresh tank of fuel. cap, rotor, plugs, wires 3 years ago. no water in fuel filter.
                              Anti siphon valve? sensor?....any ideas?
