I just bought my first boat its a 2008 tige rz4 6.0L marine with a acme #1235 prop. 250hrs .first weekend out with the boat. couple questions if you could tell me if this is normal or not. first right around the 30mph speed there is a whining noise and the faster you go the louder it is not A lot louder but louder. but when it gets below about 30mph the whining noise stops. its loud enough that you cant hear the distinct exhaust sound out the back of the boat when sitting in the drivers seat.I dunno if its a harmonics type noise or not. And the second question is at slower speeds you can let go of the steering wheel and everything stays straight but when getting up in speed and crusing pretty fast i can let go of the wheel and the wheel will turn to the left about a quarter turn and the boat will turn? If someone could help me out i would greatly appriecate it. the whining noise is more important then anything because it is annoying.

whining noise and pulling problem???

The whining noise is normal - this is caused by the tracking fins and is pronounced from about 30-35 mph and then it goes away. It is a harmonic pitch that sounds really weird, but is should go away below 30 and after about 35 mph.
Not sure about the steering problem. I thought I had a steering index problem and my dealer said to run it up to 30 mph and see if the wheel is straight. When I did this my wheel was in alignment. Pulling as much as you described says you definately have an alignment issue or something else.
Have you looked at your tracking fins to see if there is any damage (e.g. one bent, fragment missing etc?) You describe the harmonic issue as not going away above 30 mph and a pull.

The pull could just be a loaded rudder. Particularly on ski boats, they shape the rudder so that it will intentionally pull without input. This makes the driver have to apply a steady pressure to drive straight, which results in a straighter run on the slalom course.
Not sure if that carries through to all models, though. As best as I can remember, I've never let go of my wheel at cruising speed to find out.

similar issue with steering here, Boat pulls to the left really hard and pulls harder the faster you go. I have to pretty much have the wheel locked out turning left to go straight sometimes.... so i just never go over about 20 mph....we always surf anyways, but what else could be causing this?Joey - Red 20V Riders Edition
