This might sound dumb but the 2000 21V I have has a metcraft tower(pretty sure that's the brand) and the pylon to attach the rope onto is on the underside of the top rail on the tower. So if the rope becomes slack, will gravity not take over and the rope will fall off or is there some way you attach the rope to keep it snug around the pylon knob so it doesn't come off. I took the pylon off and checked to see if it would fit on the top of the rail but the bolt is machined to fit in the down position. What am I missing here? Aren't most pylon attachments on the towers in the up position?

Yup, you'll be just fine. Just be sure to keep every bolt you can find on that tower tight. Check it every time you go out. That is the stronger of the two Metcraft towers of that era but, it still needs your attention. I would pull those speakers and lights off of it as well. Those tower can barely keep themselves up let alone hold speakers and lights and boards. That whole top section bolts together and there are more than likely bolts under those pads between the speaker mounts.
What you should do is start planning to replace that tower now. The old V's are great boats, they just need a decent tower to complete them. It makes such a huge difference. It's almost like getting a new boat. Put a Sampson on it and just be done with it.You'll get your chance, smart guy.

x4 on the Sampson Razor. It is a fanatastic tower but it also is very expensive even if Scott cuts a deal. Folding is a 1 person operation, biminni is easy and boards rack are stock swivel with other choices.
I replaced the tower on my 07 20V after I trashed the stock e-series tower in a carport and the Samson was a night and day difference. As I said with 1 set of PRO 60's and light set I could raise and lower by myself. Insurance covered the whole deal.
