    Fuel Gauge not working

Hi, read a few posts regarding dodgy fuel gauges, mine has stopped working, think it's the float that has jammed, but I don't know how to get to the fuel tank to adjust it, any help much appreciated.

    Thanks,

Fuel Gauges on boats don't work very good in the first place. Some say to get a fuel flow meter. I haven't done it yet but it sounds like a good time to do it for you.

Hopefully someone else that knows more about fuel flow meters with chime in.

I have a 2002 21v and the "fuel sender" is easy to get to. Not sure about the i's. I removed mine and the float slides freely but the internal magnets are not sensing at every fuel level. 1/2tank to full works great. Below 1/2 it willl jump to 1/8 or E! You might need a new fuel sending unit.

I am also having issues with my Fule guage or sengind unit. I have a 21i and I have not been able to figure out how to get to the tank. Does anyone know how to remove the floor in the ski locker? The tank should be right below it.

I have tried removing every screw I can find but no luck.

Sorry did not mean to hijack.

ok thanks, but how do i get to the fuel tank and float. I see there is a flap on the floor with a panel that looks like it can be pulled out but i dont want to pull it to hard incase it brakes. Also, under the seat there is a white plastic circle that looks like it can come out. Any more ideas.

          Thanks.

Im doing the ballast in a 2000 21i right now. The tank on it is across the transom behind the back seat. To get the floor panel off, pull the engine cover, remove the back seat and then lift out the floor panel.

My gas gage never worked until I get low on gas either. I heard the fuel flow meters should be the way to go.

Chptril, What kind of ballast are you doing for a 21i? You know what I have, are you doing something different? PM me.

I put a FF meter in my last boat, very necessary upgrade, I don't know why they don't come standard on boats. It's high on my to do list with my current boat. I'll post up a review/how to when I finish, probably won't be for a little while. I've got ballast and FAE to install soonest.

How much does a fuel flow meter cost?

The Mercury SmartCraft system includes fuel flow as part of its standard instrumentation (the sensor is already on the engine), so somebody out there agrees with you.

What did you use as a display? I understand inserting the sensor but how did you display the data?

All of these EFI engines know how much fuel they are using, just a matter of tapping in to it and displaying it into something that humans can easily understand. Would be sweet if there was just something that you could turn on in the touch system (or for us older boats, the Tige Speedset).

My last boat was a carb s I added a ff meter in the fuel line to the engine and the it was a faria ff trip computer. You could tell it how much gas is in the tank and it counts down how much gas is left. It was very accurate.
