    97 pre2002wt timing

Need timing specs for tigé pre2002wt with a 350 in it. Experiencing back firing and high speed choke out. Fuel system has been fully addressed, but can't find timing specs. Motor has recently been replaced with a 350.

here is an old trick from an old guy
    one man on the throttle
one man at the engine with the distributer just loose enough to turn
    give her half throttle
then the guy at the distributer turns the distributor slowly and a small amount of turn until it runs
    good.
work you way up to full throttle adjusting the distrib until running smooth.
if you turn the distrib the wrong way - you will know - lack of power
if you turn the distrib the right way to far - it will ping.
ONLY TO BE DONE WITH THE BOAT IN THE WATER.
at full speed the engine will be at full load
I have use this method for years - specially on engines that have been changed.
always try to use the factory manual whenever possible.

Start at 8 degrees before Top Dead Center at idle (650-700 RPM)

The Mercruiser service manual says to adjust the timing while in gear, at idle speed, in the water.

I'd recommend a second person along with you when you do this.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

Which engine do you have? Mercruiser? Carb or fuel injected?
I thought they were electronically controlled and set the timing by the ECU?

I have a 350 Chevy in it, cared and distributed. Now it times out alright with new coil. Timing mark jumps a little but the only performance problem I have is that it will fall flat on it face when you dump the fuel. Please help.
