    Steering Wheel Calibration

On my new 2009 22ve, at idle speeds my steering wheel needs to be turned 90 deg ccw to make the boat go straight. at 25mph+, the steering wheel is dead on centered to make the boat go straight. is this normal? is there a way to align the wheel so at all speeds the wheel is dead centered the boat goes straight? can i simply remove those hex screws on the cover plate and re-align? do i have a problem with my rudder? the boat is brand new and all the underwater gear is in perfect condition. also, this condition is happening in flat water, so rough water is not the culprit here.

You can center the steering wheel with those allen screws. I had the same issue after my steering cable was replaced; steering wheel was off 90 degrees from normal. I made sure the rudder was straight inline with boat centerline, then removed the screws, and corrected the placement of the wheel. If there's a lot of play at slow speeds, you might have too much slack or too long a cable installed.

    Ambivalent? Yes. Or Not.

If you adjust it for an idle, then it will be off while drive at 25+
My boat does this as well. I believe it is due to the prop wash (Some I/O boats have dual rotating props to prevent this)
Tige, it's a way of life!

I agree with this... I would bet prop wash is causing it.

I would rather have it straight at the higher speeds...

You are better off adj. it under the dash. Four bolts to loosen. drop down the black rectangle at end of stteering cable turn the steering wheel to center retighten four bolts.test dirve and see how it is. if it needs a little more repeat procedure.
