    impeller housing/pulley

    2001 21i Mercruiser 350 MPI motor.
Should the pulley that the impeller is part of have any play once assymbled?
Impeller pulley quit turning on the boat and when I took it off there was some rubber pieces stuck in the port trying to get out guesssing this is what caused the pulley to stop turning. Anyway, I pulled the old impeller out and don't see where the pieces that were clogging the port came from? Where did this extra stuff come from?? Are those bolts to be torqued?

Can you post pictures of what you found in the housing? Did you find these pieces in with the impeller?

Did you put the housing back on and do a test to see if it works now?
If its not fun, Why do it?

this is the side that showed the most damage. The other side is fine. I have no idea where these other pieces came from but they were wedged in there with the impeller. Not sure if they were on their way in or out?

too me they look like pieces from an older impeller? Now I am worried that more have moved further down the line. How hard is it to check trans cooler, what about thermostate, should I check this stuff?

When we were running it this afternoon everything seemed fine. Temp was right and we were having fun. I shut the motor off too switch riders and when I fired it back up I heard this squeeling and it would not start. I opened the cowling and that when I noticed that pulley not spinning.

I call you tomorrow once I get back to the boat and put it together. I might try and find the trans cooler and see if I can't find more pieces. Sucks, my whole family is at the lake, 8 kids wanting to tube/ski and board. Not to mention me!!

do you ever run your boat with out it being in the water?
If so, do you use a fake o lake?
Tige, it's a way of life!

yes, I have run the boat out of the water several times with the fake-o-lake. What are you getting at?
I am off to the lake to get the new empeller back on and hopefully good to go..

I had the same squeeling noise with my 99 2100V. My problem happened when I went to start it after it sat for a few days. I replaced the impellar and it was fine. I'didn't have pieces in the houseing like you. The old impellar looked fine but that was the problem. Good luck.

                        I was just wondering,
Just and FYI, while using a Fake –O-Lake, never run it over 1,000 rpm’s.
This is what I was told by Tige MD, he also said never run it on the rap to remove water from the engine, as it will fry the impeller
I know how frustrating it can be when people are wanting to ride and boat does not work. ( I had an issue with my fuel pump last year)
                        Good luck

I have a 2002 21v w/ 350 Merc MPI tow sports. If you have the same, the water flows in the bottom tube and out the top. Follow the top tube and remove the hose at the next part it touches. Mine goes to a black shiny can looking thing that has a screen on the inside. I found a bunch of old impeller parts there a few year back when I had trouble. Now I check it every time I change the impeller just in case anything else got sucked up.

right on, yea I typically just let it idle when using fake-o-lake.

So was able to get it all back together before kids were even ready to hit the lake Saturday morning. Ran like a champ the rest of the weekend. Probably still go ahead and pull the thermostate and other hoses and back flush it for grins. Just not sure if I did'nt suck other pieces further into the system?
Curious, anyone one know what a normal operating temp is? Ran around 175 the rest of the weekend, could have sworn it was running around 160 before?
