    Trailer Tire Pressure

Just curious what people thought was good trailer tire pressure. Our boat doesn't get moved all that often, but this weekend its taking a short trip. The tires say something about 35psi, but that looks a bit low to me. The tires aren't in the greatest shape and I just want to try my hardest to avoid any kind of failure.

21V on Road Runner twin axle.

    Thanks in advance.

I usually run my tire's about 5lbs under the max as the tires heat up the pressure will go up as well.

my trailer tires are rated to 50 psi. That's where I put them. Tire pressure is rated for running at temperature.

There is a great thread on here somewhere with numbers as to just how many less support pounds your tires are good for when underinflated by just 5 psi

Those sound like passenger car tires, are they "ST" rated?

            They are regular ST205/75D-14.

I am not where the trailer is now, but I do think I saw something about 50psi on one of them.

I know there is a lot of rubber on the pavement at 35psi right now. I think I'm gonna take them up to 50.

            Thanks!

Don't assume that and jump to 50, I see your from Austin; I live in Texas also and you know that the pavement heats up pretty warm during the sunny summer days. The tire pressure will only go up once you start driving because of the road temperature and other factors. Make sure to know exactly what your tires are rated for and adhere to those ratings.

Personally my trailer tires are rated at 50 psi, i dont tow it but a half mile to the ramp then back in a day so i can leave 45 in mine with no problems. But the problem with underinflation is you lose weight capacity. So each tire has a range for its application, it just has to be found.

                Alright, will do. Thanks.

I am just pulling it off Austin and taking it 15 miles to Travis, but it is hot as heck here (understatement).

I believe 50 lbs. is kind of a standard for small trailer tires

I believe you are right, but my boat has the upgraded trailer. The tires on it are Nexen N3000, which are a sport performance tire, not made for trailers. They are what came on it from the factory when i ordered the trailer upgrade. They have given me no problems and ride smooth, but each set of tires is different so checking is the only way to know for sure.
