I WAS AT THE RIVER THIS WEEKEND AND IT WAS REALLY HOT, LIKE 115. THE WATER TEMPERTURE WAS EXTREMELY COLD, EVEN A LITTLE PAINFUL. I NOTICED THE MY ENGINE WAS RUNNING CONSISTANTLY BETWEEN 180-184 WHILE AT ABOUT 3000-4000 RPMS. I THOUGHT THIS WAS TO HOT AND SUSPECT THAT THE BOAT PROBLY HAS A 180 THERMOSTAT AND I WAS WONDERIND IF I SHOULD CHANGE IT. THIS IS ONLY MY SECOND TRIP IN OUR NEW TO US 1999 22I WITH THE 350 MAG.

that motor should have a 165deg thermostat. DO NOT CHANGE IT! you will confuse that ecm. 185deg is not that hot, you might want to check and see that you thermostat is not clogged up with corrosion. have you changed the impeller yet? does it run hotter while at idle?Greg Denton

well, if a motor is going to overheat then it will shoot up to 200+ in no time. i would try flushing the block of any sand or sediment and check the thermostat housing. like i said before 180-185deg is not too hot. close but not quite there.Greg Denton

the housing is on top of the motor all the way in the back. you'll see 4 hoses and 2 senders. you will need to replace the gasket 53045 1. to flush the block remove the 2 blue winterizing plugs, 1 from each side of the block. hook up you fake-a-lake remove your bilge drain plug and fire up the engine. let the engine run for as long as it takes the water to pump freely out of the holes. alot of times you will get alot of sand locked in the block, due to sitting at the sand bar recharging your stereo batteries with 10 hotties on the sundeck not realizing the water pick up is sitting in the sand. this is also a good way to give your bilge a hot water cleaning.Greg Denton
