    TAPS Problems

    1997 PRE 2150WT

My TAPS trim plate is now stuck in the wakeboard position. I usually leave it in slalom all the time but some friends wanted a bigger wake over the weekend so I put into wakeboard position and now it won't go back. It has always been a little touchy and I just tap the switch back and forth and then it finally moves. When I hit the switch it pulls the volts down on the battery so I don't think it is the switch being stuck. Any ideas? I haven't had a chance to get into it because I had too many people on the boat when it happened. I will look at it this weekend. I am assuming this is a hydrualic trim tab. I will have to look around and see if I can find the pump and go from there. If anyone has had issues before let me know so I can go into it somewhat educated.

I just tuned up the carburetor, replaced the decals and now the boat looks like new and runs like a champ. Now theres this stupid trim plate and I can't run much over 30 MPH.

Don't be so quick to assume it is a pump, it could be the wiring. Initially mine seemed strained when I would operate it and it took forever. I assumed the pump was going bad, called the manufacturer and he advised I run a test on the pump by running wires directly from battery.

Did this and discovered it was a wiring issue not a hydraulic one. So I just redid my electrical connections and it works great. Do a "TAPS" search and you will find more valuable information.

    Good luck

When I got my boat the TAPS didn't work mine was a near empty fluid reservoir and a ground wire to the pump was broken repaired both and it works great.

Sounds like low fluid in the pump.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.
