    Water Intake Issues

2004 24V 6.0 Marine Power with the Jabsco pump system.

Last week we where in our local lake and got into some milfoil.
Boat ran fine the whole day. Two days later my wife takes out the boat and the impeller runs dry engine overheats. We get it home and I back flush the system.

I see some crap come out of it. I get the new impeller in and now it’s still not working. I take off every hose, back flush and still no luck with the fake a lake.

Now, I pulled off the intake hose from the bottom of the boat and ran my hose straight into that. When I run that way it works water comes out the exhaust.

I searched the forums and I can’t find any strainers in my systems like I read about. Any help would be grateful. Thanks

Did you take off the hose to the inlet side of the trans. cooler an look in to the trans. cooler for debris clogging the trans. cooler?
http://www.iboats.com/Transmission-O...view_id.203753 It will look like this but it is painted and will have thread fittings for hoses not nipples like this one has in the center

I took the hose off, but the way it is set up there is about a 3 inch fitting that goes 90 degrees into the trans. I think I would have to undo the fitting to check.

So since my post, I have replaced my serpentine belt and put in another knew impeller. When I had it apart, I put the cover on without the impeller and can get water through the system. Granted it's not enough to keep the motor cool, but it makes it through.

When I took the pump cover off, water came out. I put in the knew impeller, start the water and motor, nothing happens. Open the cover no water.

Once I had the cover off, I started the motor for a second and could see the impeller is turning.

So I guess tomorrow, I will pull the fitting out of the transmission and check. I will keep you posted.

      Thanks for the tip.

Is there a chance the two hoses on the water pump could have been switched around?

There is no fitting on the trans cooler , I think your mixing it up with the vbox, trans cooler is a cylinder with two hydralic hoses hooked to the top of the cylinder, has a hose 1.25 at both ends those are the ones you pull off to inspect.

I would add a sea strainer to prevent this. I was having problems with hydrilla getting clogged in the trans cooler early this year. Added a Sherwood sea strainer and have no problems since. I believe all boats should have a sea strainer on them and that they should be stock from the factory, not optional.

Once you get the hose off the intake side of the trans cooler you have to reach a finger in there and dig out the weeds that are clogging things up.
