2002 Tige 20v 6.2l black scorpion dieing out!!

I have had my boat out several times this year and it has run good. Just changed v-drive and trans fluid and took it out. Ran good for about 1 hour then it would not run past idle. Boat cranks fine and will idle. Will run about 1200-1500 RPMS with out any trouble. As soon as you give it more gas it acts like it not getting enough fuel and then it will die.

Changed the fuel seperator, plugs, and put seafoam in the gas. Tried it again today and same problem. Seems like it is not getting enough fuel.

Any ideas? I do not want to go through the process of fixing different things until I find the correct one. Done that before and that can be exspensive!

Are you seeing black smoke coming out of the exhaust? Is it doing it when the motor is warmed up? If you answer yet to both of the these questions, then it is possibly a sensor in your ignition system. I was having the same problem, and the dealer replaced a $50 part and it works fine now.

Yes. Do you have any idea which sensor it was? I have replaced the IAC valve and the TPS and it still doesn't work.

          Bama,

I just looked through my receipts and that is the one that I don't have, sorry! It was not a sensor per say, but a control module or relay or something in the ignition system. I am working on the boat later this afternoon. I will go out and look and see if I can remember what it was they replaced and maybe get a part number off of it.

Ok. That would be great. I am lost here!!! I am about to take it to the shop but if you can figure out which part I might can fix it myself and save a few $.

More than likely a coolant temp sensor, or ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor. I've seen them do the same thing, heavy exhaust smoke, rough running, won't stay running at low rpm. It's possible for this sensor to go bad and still be within ECM parameters so it doesn't throw a code. With the diagnostics computer you can see exactly what it's reading and telling the ECM to know for sure it's the problem but that's a common issue when they go out. Good luck!

Did you ever figure out what was causing your problem?? What kind of fuel burn do you see on that engine?
