Deck lid/trunk on my 2250 pre WT Cable release

My 1998 2250 Pre WT TAPS has what appears to be gas struts and cable activated trunk locking pins. I don’t know how the work or where to activate the trunk release.

There is a latch you need to pull on the port side behind the side panel. You pull, hold and lift at the same time.
