How to remove Tige Touch 1 Screen?

Hello,

I am working on replacing the Tige Touch screen on my 2011 RZ4. As many others have experienced, it’s delaminating. I was able to remove the chromax screen cover fairly easily without destroying it by using a little heat plus some plastic putty knives that I rounded the corners down on. How do you access the two nuts on the back side of the screen so it can be pulled forward? I can see one stud from the underside of the dash, but there’s no way my hand will fit up there. What does it take to pull the top of the dash for access? Thanks

After taking part more than I really needed to (I only wasted an extra 15mins), it turns out it was pretty easy, at least on my 2011 RZ4. I’ll start from the beginning.

I took 3 cheap plastic putty knives and sanded down the corners so they would be less likely to scratch the dash.

I heated up the chromax screen cover slightly and slowly used the putty knives to pry up the cover. I always kept the putty knife parallel with the screen cover. I made sure not to bend the screen cover. You have to be careful around the screen control buttons, but they weren’t stuck on very hard. Also watch the heat around the buttons as the screen cover is pretty thin right there.

Once the chromax screen cover is off, just pop a flat head screw driver under the edge of the touch screen and lightly pry up the touchscreen to pop it out. There was no glue or tape holding it down. There were no brackets behind the screen. The touch screen was just sandwiched between the plastic dash panel and the chromax screen cover. Disconnect the two sets of wires and removal is complete.

My MTC screen arrived yesterday s your post is very helpful. I have a 2012 Z3. Wondering what you used to glue the cover back on with. My cover is already pretty loose around the screen control buttons. I can get my fingernail behind it already and pull it out a bit, and it has a bit of stickiness left when I press it back again, but to the left of the screen it is stuck fast like yours. I will carefully use a heat gun and the knife that was sent with the MTC screen or a putty knife to get it off as per your instructions. But I assume that the previous adhesive will have to be replaced to fasten the chrome panel back on to hold everything in place? Or did you just press it on or heat it up again and the old adhesive still worked?

I got my MTX screen installed successfully and can add to this topic and answer some questions that were posed here.
Note that the new MTC screen has a purplish anti-glare coating that changes the whites to a yellow tint but improves readability in bright sun.

The Chrome cover on my 2012 Z3 is basically chrome on top of a rubber type of material that is thicker on the main part than around the buttons on the right side.
I used silicone to attach it again. The metal scraper that comes with the MTC screen is useful for gradually cutting the old adhesive between the rubber and the dash to release the Chrome cover.
I had a completely different situation with my dash. Patrickk1 must have been missing the metal bracket on his boat. That's the only way he could have pried the touchscreen out with a screwdriver.

1. There are 4 screws behind the Chrome panel cover that need to be removed to release the black board behind the dash that the Medallion touchscreen unit is attached to along with the control buttons on the right side. The board will then be loose behind the dash.
2. Then you can manoeuver the board from behind the dash through the hole by tilting it diagonally.
3. There are 3 cables in total connected to the back of the stuff on the board that will keep you from removing the board entirely.
   1. The RCA video cable (blue) which on mine is zip tied to the metal bracket on the back of the Medallion Unit, so unplugging the cable is not enough yet to free the Medallion unit at this point.
   2. The connector to the back of the Tige control buttons on the right side.
4. Then there are 4 more screws that attach a metal bracket on the back of the plastic Medallion unit to the black board. Once these are removed the Tige Control buttons stay with the board and the Medallion unit is separated from the board, but still has the metal bracket attached to it.
5. There are 2 remaining nuts to remove to remove the metal bracket from the Plastic Medallion unit. Once this is removed. The video cable can stay zip tied to the metal bracket, but the board can be removed from the dash. Upon re-assembly it is important to leave the 2 nuts a bit loose when reattaching the bracket to the Medallion case. Then put the 4 screws back in place before tightening the 2 nuts on the metal bracket. Otherwise tightening the nuts will cause the bracket to spread and the screw holes will not line up.
