    Won’t start again

    ‘06 22ve with pcm 330

Had to rebuild top end at the beginning of summer due to riser gasket failure. Ran it a dozen or so times since.
Now I’m having issues again. Wife was out with some friends last weekend and it died and won’t start now. Rolls over and tries to start, stumbles a little after I let off the ignition like it’s trying.

Seems to be an ignition issue. Won’t fire with starter fluid. Fuel pressure is good. Changed cap, rotor, pickup module in distributor. Still nothing.
Pulled plug wires and checked fire. Little to no spark at plug wires. Coil wire has good fire. Could it be ignition module? How do I verify this? Don’t want to just keep throwing parts at it.

Alright old peeps y'all have to help me remember. Was the '06 the year with the little red wire that came off the ECM that was fused? I really want to say it was for some reason. Its like a 20ga red wire on the port side. I know its a TAC module boat which has it's own set of quirks.

Sebenfitty, look to see if there is a little red wire on the port side of the engine. If so, follow it to it's fuse holder. That could be the issue.
    Oh Yeah!

Wish I had seen this earlier. Gonna have to go back to the shop and check it out.
Would that keep me from getting fire past the distributor? Like I said, I’ve got fire at coil wire. Almost none at plugs.

If I’m understanding this, you have good BLUE spark at the wire from the coil to the distributor cap?? If so, and you have WEAK spark from the distributor to the plug, then the cap could be bad. Make sure ALL plug wires are seated good. At distributor side and plug side. If you have the old electronic ignition module still, install it and see what happens. Module could be faulty too. And make sure the module wires are still connected too. I didn’t look up your motor but is it fuel injected or carb ??

Not a blue spark. Orange. So I’m guessing it’s not as good of a spark as I thought. And weak or no spark at different plugs. On my my second new cap and rotor. First set was from auto store. Thinking it may be bad also, I picked up a marine cap and rotor and new wires from boat shop. Also replaced pickup module in distributor.
Haven’t replaced the ignition module/coil. That was my next step.
It’s TBI. This is a 5.7 vortec base engine.

Could be the CHINESE ignition module. Or possibly the coil itself. Strong spark is usually blue.

Replaced coil and ignition module. Same orange spark. Gotta figure out where to start with my multimeter. Shop can't get me in for 2 more weeks.

Try changing plug wires yet??? Seems that’s the only thing you haven’t changed.

Not yet. Thought for sure if coil isn’t putting out a good spark, the plugs weren’t gonna fire anyway.
just checked voltage to coil and ignition module. Matches the battery voltage before cranking. Drops to around high 8-10v when cranking.

I misread that. I did change the wires.

Will it start up with starting fluid? Maybe TBI is dirty. Make sure the negative wire is connected to coil and not melted. Sometimes they do that. Just goes bad. Also I think in TBI the injectors have their own fuse. Research it and try and find that fuse. Once you get motor started, dump about 3 bottles of sea foam in fuel tank to start cleaning out your fuel system. Also have you changed your fuel filter?

                        Starter fluid does nothing.

From the spark I’m getting, it’s gotta be an ignition system issue. After all the parts I’ve replaced, just don’t know where to go next. Gonna be a week or two before any shops can take her
